Thank you for responding to my posting. In the second line of your response you said “not start them off at an http:// url". I think what you meant is to "not start them off at an https:// url". If this is your intention then I agree with you 100%. I have revised my pages so the users will go first to a non-https page and then make a choice either to use secure or non-secure access. Please note that the site is not intended to be completely SSL protected but only the sign up pages. I have another problem though when I click on the "Secure Log In" and enter my log in information; the entire subsequent URLs will have https:// in them which I could not shake off. As I said the intention was to use the https for sign in only.
I realize that this issue does not have any thing to do with your product, but any input will be appreciated. Best,

GO , that wont work the way you did it because groups are not stored like like.
groups are stored "*1*"
or "*1*,*9,*"
so if you test for them you must do so using the InStr function of vbscript
example:
If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then

also.. as for the session variable
it should be Session("Groups")
And in Version 6.... (its all ready to go in version 7) that session variable must be saved in the check_user_inc.asp file near where all the others are saved. If it is not there by default "I dont remember if it is or not" you have to add it like so near where all the others are saved
Session("Groups") = CmdCheckUser("Groups")
If you are wondering if it is being saved correctly you can always response.write out the Session("Groups") to see if it holds a value , Terribly sorry, but we are not software-technical. So can you please tell us exactly which folder the database would be in.
Thanks in advance. ,  I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:

To protect a page without using the Access_Level or Groups feature simply add this code to the top of that page.

Please see the code generators in the admin are for the code to do that. cwilliams38403.6864351852, Actually, as far the "aspprotectnet.dll" file goes it makes sense because of the following.
The "aspprotectlicense.dll" is something we do not provide the source code for. We also do not compile it in "debug" mode because you not want dll's running in "debug" mode in a production environment and we also do not want that dll in debug mode because of reverse engineering reasons.
Now, that being said that DLL is no different than any other 3rd party dll "so to speak" that you would use in a project. Many of which will not be in debug mode and you will also not have the source for.
"Microsoft.Data.Odbc.dll" being an example
Regardless, there must be a way to do what your trying to do. I am just not sure at the moment. It is nothing anyone has brought up before and I personally have never had any issues like that when I work on the application so I am just not sure.

I do not even see ASPUpload listed but when I run the test_asp_components.asp from the extras/more_component_info folder, it shows that it is installed.

have already been assigned ID's and passwords with a
homegrown system.
When doing a bulk import, will we be able to retain the userid and password or will a new id be assigned during the bulk load?

expiration dates in the aspprotect system are not used at all when using paypal subscriptions.. all date handling is done on their end actually
and they of course send notices from their system to the user regarding their subscription and when it renews,cancels, etc etc
so I am pretty sure any errors with that would have more to do with the info you used for the subscription setup and possibly any paypal settings associated with it
its hard to say at this point
The smart thing to do I think.. would be to sign up someone using another PayPal account (your allowed 2)... and while doing it be very careful about the subscription setup data.. and then as soon as the subscription is created review all the info in the paypal system and see if the length of the subscription / expiration.. etc etc in the paypal system info looks right..
at least then you can begin to troubleshoot what is going on... , Now I am having trouble using the log function.
I have checked the box in administration area for UseLogFiles. I have put the expected path for the LogFileDirectory in the box. I have modified the permissions for the anonymous web site user to modify this directory. However the log file does not get updated and there is nothing when I go to view the logs.

Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support. , UPDATE

Well, i have tryed with the ASPImage enabled and disabled, with the same results. I have used gifs and jpgs in the tests.
I have made some different test. Some with uploading the picture over an excisting picture and some as the first picture. Same results.
Everytime, it´s the 2nd thumbnail that won´t show itself, but the large picture will show, if you press the thumbnail.
I have tryed to look in the code (view_ad.asp), but as far as i can see, everything seems just fine ?!
I know, it wasn´t much help i could give you, but i think i have tryed all the possibilities.

I have been trying to log into my site using the protected pages comments you have in support. I have copied the code in the ASPprotect 7 guide.

and pasted it in my page, set the the IIS to open this page and the page will not open it and the page will not open and the error is

When I remove the two lines of code everything goes normally.
I have aspprotect in its own directory in the website. I have read the installation several times and I am afraid I am missing something blatently obvious so I really appreciate you thoughts.
I am presently using redirects. I like not haveing to use them as your comments have suggested. I have pulled all that code from the pages I desire to protect during this test.
I have three test users in my database - 1 administrator
Any suggestions?

, actually, passwords can be up to 75 characters long in ASPProtect.
the only requirement when entered from a non admin user is that they are at least 4 characters long.
what does MSAccess have to do with this ? Are you trying to convert and old system or something? I noticed you created and "old password" field in there ? Is there something I do not know about as far as what you are trying to do?
Passwords in version 7 are encrypted so I hope you understand all of that and realize you can not enter or change passwords right from SQL server. Also if you import info you must handle that accordingly and convert the passwords to encrypted format for the new version., Well, hold everything.
Looks like I did it right. The latest user showed up in the correct group.
I guess the ASP pages had to refresh at the server or something...
It's still a great product, BTW. Almost five years for my enjoyable ride with ASPProtect!
, yes, any page you want protected needs to be edited..
You can probably have a login box on a non protected page. Just copy the generated source html form code for the login box of a protected page. Then put it on your non-protected page, but change the action to the page you want them to log in to.
In other words go to a protected page. See the login box, view the html browser source and use that to make your login form on the main page.
I have not tried it with .NET but I am pretty sure you can do it since it pretty much works the same as the classic asp version of ASPProtect.
try it.. see if it works.. If I have time tommoro I will test it out., All fixed... I changed the remote server from localhost.omegaphibeta.net or whatever it said there to localhost

Again, enspecified error are not very helpful.
An error usually tells you at least a line number and page or something.

As for only happening once in a while. It could be a lot of things.
Version being used (when did you purchase.. what name/email was it under and I can look) ?
What banner method being used?
Access or MSSQL ?
How busy the site is ?
Server Resources ? cwilliams38414.6114930556, I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables.
try saving the admin settings page again.. or reboot the server so the settings get reloaded
if you can make sure the web is it's own application in IIS
if it is your server do and "iisreset" from the command prompt
if all else fails you got iis application issues with the site... wait till tommoro to see if the setting gets loaded , And I'm the one who finds those rarities! I'm not surprised. 
Oh well...this should be interesting trying to get an 80 year old man to change his password.

Mick , I've been working on it for quite some time.... doesn't seem to be working as of yet :(, When adding a new user I am taken to a form.
There are several "required fields".
First and last names are 2 of them.
This is not needed by me and I need the company name as a required field instead. I work and deal with company names, not individuals.
So, i am unable to add any users due to this.
How can I either do away with the names as a required field or swap the individual names with the company name as a required field?
I have customers wanting to be able to view their own stats, but I need to do away with the required fields to work with my customer base.
-john , I purchased and installed the full version ASPProtect 6.0 in Feb 05 (must have been just before 7.0 came out) and have been using CDONTS for email authorization during the registration process.
It was working fine for about three months. Now, after registering, the email authorization is NOT delivered to the new registrant. There are no error messages.It just doesn't arrive.
Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes

Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.

The out of the box GalleryConnectionString tries to access a catalog called aspgallery and a user id aspgallery

I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed. lancem38325.9032986111, I log all 404 errors on my site and since installing ASPBanner, I get a lot of the following error:

I had about a dozen people access the same account, but it is highly unlikely that they would all try at the same time (unless there were several hundred people who had access). Having an enhanced login abuse would be nice.

You may also want to make your the filesystem on the server is working and not disabled by norton script blocking or anything random like that. Testing the filesystem object is best done by writing a simple text file to a folder. Plenty of examples of doing that can be found at www.aspin.com
Recent activity is temporary and admin activity in the admin area is not tracked. If your application in IIS has reset or there has been no activity in the users area or in pages you protected there will be nothing there. The busier your site the more chance something will be there. For example usually our online demo has something there except right after 4am when my server does an iisreset. , huh? I think I just covered that as that is the way it must be done., Am very interesting in purchasing ASPProtect, but am curious as to whether anyone has had success/failure with Network Solutions "standard windows hosting" solution? I have noticed a considerable decrease in the loading of my index page when I have a banner called. When I remove the banner, all is fine.
Any suggestions?
Dave , I need more details... telling me you cant get it to work doesn't give me much to go on , ok,
IE and firefox do some things differently.
It could very well have to do with MIME types set on the server for your website. pdf probably isnt set as a mime type which can cause issues with file streaming situations.
Mime types are either set in the IIS console for your web site under the http headers tab or you can try setting the content-type header to 'application/pdf' right on the asp page the does the streaming

You would want to put the code that sets the contentype as close to the top of the asp page doing the streaming as possible. ,
