It wasn't a complaint. I just bought it last night and installed it today. But, I must have missed the part about requiring Enterprise Manager for installing it on SQL.

If you want it the link to the Web Based SQL Manager is : http://www.aspenterprisemanager.com/ which is free and the Trialware that I tried is EMS SQL Manager.

Maybe that will help a little in not requiring that people have an MS SQL license to access their hosted MS SQL to install the software.

I downloaded the skins, ftp'd them to the skins folder and can see them in the list of available skins. No matter which one I try to apply it keeps solid_color_black.

yup. that is correct... they can't log in so they can't see any pages you protect

its the nature of forms based authetication

I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:

However, nothing happens. I am not sure if I am missing something.

FYI: the "Check_user_inc.asp" file is in the root directory of the site which is actually two levels down on the d: drive of the server.

I think you�ll definitely like aspbanner. It's very easy to setup and use and it should work great with your portal.

You�ll have banners rotating in no time. All you have to do is add banner calling code in your pages where you want the banners to show. There are enough methods that you will definitely find a few that work well for you.

BTW, there are actually 7 methods now as we have a new one.

I appreciate the offer to beta test... but its really more a matter of me getting it ready..

I have a lot done.. but a lot of things are hard coded to only work on my machine and some things have not been sorted out. Giving it to someone else to test would be a waste of time at this point as I they probably couldn�t even run it.

Lately the reason this project has fallen behind has all to do with my main webserver where I collocate.

1st it got compromised (we think by certain competitors who are always up to no good)... then windows 2003 server which I decided to go with on the new server gave me random problems... then the Cisco hardware firewall was acting up and making the sites run slow....then SQL server attacks on port 1433 from Korea when I took the firewall down....and as of the last few days I think the server just needs a new power supply. I swear for the last 2 months I have spent more time administrating my servers than working on code. Yesterday it was locking up every 30 minutes. There have been a lot of days like that and it takes up all my time until I get it situated. Especially since its over 100 miles to the collocation center. The APC unit I installed that allows me to remotely cut the power to hard reboot is a life saver.

Fun... I tell ya... and expensive.. (hardware, software, lost sales, and time) I am pretty much completely broke at the moment. It has been a very expensive few months.

But I like running my own servers... I run dns servers, email servers, sql servers, web servers.. I do it all. It's keeps me in touch with the latest software/hardware. Regardless , my servers ran well for years and they will again.

anyway.. hopefully I can actually get a new version of the photo gallery out before the month is over. It will probably be the last classic asp version. The version after that will most likely be ASP.net.

We have been using ASP Protect for a while now and are big fans of the program. We received ASP Banner 8.2 with our puchase which we now have a need for. I went to put the files on our webpage, and doing nothing else other than locating the directory there, I noticed differences with how ASP Protect operates. We have customized it a bit and want to keep the 2 programs separate. the login screen for one showed up on the other, and some ASP Protect pages appeared altered so i immediately deleted ASP Banner. did I do something wrong, and how can i ensure the 2 programs work completely independant of each other? We can't risk braking what we're now using but would really like to add banner functionality to some of our pages. maybe an update to the program before we install? puchase new software? Things have now changed I found out godaddy has persitis aspUPload and aspjpeg as value added products, I have the aspjpeg working but have been unable to upload when using aspUPload, everything works fine with the vbscript method so I think my permissions are correct. Whenever you get a chance, any help would be appreciated.

Ok new puzzle

. I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.

But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be foldrname//protectpage.ascx.

Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error

I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...

Yes, as long as each installation is in in it's own web site.
(or at least in it's own application in IIS)
Meaning you could have 5 directories in your site each with the app installed as long as each directory got set as an application in IIS.

Remember, a license must purchased for each running install except for development reasons on local machines.

In addition to that I just noticed the </href> you have in there.. man that is some scary stuff you came up with.. that may appear to work and make a link but it is not correct. Each link will work but never truly be closed.

That is just not valid proper use of the anchor tag.
You make a link in html like so

yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...

and like in the "example" protected pages we provide

or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes

I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this

DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

and not

DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

The same holds true for using MSSQL

I'm setting up the subscription locally so I can't test it out until I put the site live. I have a question in how the paypal subscription works.

1. What is telling paypal to return the info to the ipn.asp page for processing? Is that something I have to set up in my paypal account?

2. I'd like to use Paypal's auto return. I assume the return page would be ipn.asp? Would I just need to add a redirect to the login page at the end of the appropriate txn_type if/then statement?

, It just sits there indefinitely without an error being returned. The only clue I have is that it seems to be connecting to the database when I try to log-in. I know this because I decided to erase the files and start again, but I could not delete the database because it was "in use". After I rebooted to clear that connection and erased the database, then re-did the install, the same condition exists after entering the key on the get_me_in.asp page. It just sits there indefinitely.,

thats because you can not have exchange server running at the same time as the windows IIS virtual smtp server..

they clash with one another... and thats why the emails never get picked up by the iis stmp server

you have to send the emails another way like using a true remote mail server.. I am not sure but if your exchange server can do pop 3 you can probably use that that way

you may be able to change the pickup directory that cdosys uses under the virtual SMTP scenario, but I am not sure if that will work with exchange picking it up, but maybe it will work ok because you said it does when you paste them in there manually.. I do not really know.. you'd have to try it and edit the email sub routine to use that pickup path

"scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" is where you could try editing that path

Whenever you are running software that can block scripts from certain things you are going to have issues like this.

I imagine many complex asp scripts you will download will do things like this as well.

A highly doubt it is anything to worry about regarding people that use your site.

ASP code delivers standard html to the browser... nothing weird goes on as far as that goes.

This system has been sold for 6 years and this is just not something to worry about. Trust me.. though you may want to tone down black ice so it doesn't give you issues as it tries to block various things.

If I were you I would do some google searches on black ice and issues with it blocking asp scripts.. etc etc

Now, if you are running black ice right on the server that a whole other story and something you as a server admin need to decide what to do about. I doubt that is the case as black ice is not probably suitable for a commercial webserver but I just thought I would throw that out there.

I am using v7 with other software written in ASP.NET. When I include the the "checkfor" and include file, I'm receiving a compliation error.

Great software.

How easy would it be to copy the email address entered at registration directly into the login id field so that the user's email address is automatically used as the login id?

Also, where in the code can I turn off the random password generator - I'd rather force people to pick something they can remember themselves.

Both the NET and Classic ASP versions of this application are designed for fine granularity protection of individual apsx extension files. ASPProtect.NET is not designed or intended to protect sub directories, or non aspx content such as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files etc etc.

I completely disagree with your statement that �most sites� have a login box on the left hand side of the page. I suspect you thinking of the ever popular php based forums and �Nuke� type CMS systems which are set up that way but if you look at any site written entirely using .NET that�s rarely if ever the case. (Granted I cant say for sure because I personally haven�t looked at >50% of the estimated 18 billion + web pages on the internet) Just off the top of my head www.CafePress.com come to mind as a pure .NET site. If you take a look the login button it takes you to its own login page there is not global login form used throughout the site. Reason being that .NET introduced this thing called a �view state� which is used to store things like your session ID (and way more) and must be posted back to the server in order to keep track of visitors. This technology comes in especially handy when you have a web farm in place and your content is being spit out out by more than one server at the same time

I can think of loads of scenarios where the web servers need to know who you are even though you are never directly contacting them via http. This approach is a very smooth and actually very clever solution for enterprise level websites that simply can�t be handled with a single web server.

On a practical level I know what you are saying but that application sets up all sorts of things when a protected page is accessed and the user is not yet authenticated. That�s the entire reason you need to put that snippet of code at the top of a page you want to protect. That code snippet calls the ASPProtect.NET class and runs through all the logic to see if you are able to access the page. If you are the subroutine exits and the server continues to process the remaining logic on the page. AKA you are able to access its content. If you are NOT authenticated ASPProtect will setup all the proper session and viewstate info and redirect you to the login page for authentication. You may have also noticed a parameter on the login page called ReturnURL. The application looks for that info and if you do have a user ID and password the application automatically redirects you to the page you were trying to access in the first place.

Really I have no idea what you are trying to do, but there is a world of difference in how something looks verses how it works. Lets just say there was a simple way to do what your thinking, what are you going to do with that login form after the person logs in? Just keep displaying it on the entire site so people get confused and don�t know if they are logged in or not? Just that little part of the equation will require making some changes to either ASPProtect.NET or your application will have to have some logic built into it to stop displaying the login forum.

It sounds to me like your basically looking for a super simple 101 type deal that allows people to sign up for an event and you the admin can see that information? I�m guessing they can also log in again and check out their details and see what event they signed up for?

If that�s the case you�re trying to take a very sophisticated protection application and downgrade it into something that would be one heck of a lot easier to write all from scratch in about an hour.

Your not going to be able to �plug and play� a simple form into a page and turn that application as a magic universal login solution for a website, while its 100% possible to use the application that way if you choose, you need to check out the source code and plan your custom integration accordingly.

you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases

, Thanks for the install. After many hours I finally got part of the system working. I can log in and log out as a user. My problem is I want the pages
accesses by Members ONly. The database will contain the names of the members and only they are allowed access, and no one else. I tried Joe Blow to log in and it worked, the only thing is Joe was not in the database and he should have been locked out and a page come us saying something like "you are not a registered user, please complete the membership application" and then link back to the root web, application page.
I am also afraid of breaking the codes you provided thus far. I also want the password protected pages in a sub-web of the root web.
This may sound like elementary stuff, but this newbie is having constant trouble. I am also referencing books on ASP and Access and VB and still come up with a dead end. Search the net and come up with a few codes which are described as something I am looking for, but dont want to add any thing like that for fear of breaking the whole thing.
Any suggestions?

Dinner, Took business calls., Organize support archives, timecards and helped Fred so he would not have a stroke moving his desk, work on Worldgroup server to track logon records for Customs summons, Working on conversion of existing homes sales report for new MLS software... , Davidson AutoNet - add new text to careers page, fix slight color difference on splash page, made all images transparent., Sat down in the NOC room, installed Netscape, and Access on my computer, looked over some stuff that Seth gave me about Cisco products, (routers and such), took a couple business calls., Business Journal, lunch, team meeting- , had to make some changes on the open incidents report page, tech calls online issues and ask us a questions and as well we were pretty steady most of the night vermont going up and down (mail) also called radlogs., answer some voice mails, lunch....didnt really take one, but i have to put it in here, E-Mails, Voice-Mail, Phone calls, so much misc crap from being the only day working at my desk.
