1st: try it with a normal dsn-less connection like we show in the example.. dont use that OLEDB.4.0 connection string.. connecting like that can cause a lot of problems and is not as great as everyone thinks it is and it can sometimes be difficult to get it working when the database has a password set on it
For the sake of troubleshooting just connect like so: (fixing the path of course)
ConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotect\data\database\ASPProtect_ access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
ASPProtect will generate the actual connection string you should use when you run this page
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
2nd: any IIS server setup to have the access database over the network path like that has a poor setup... and that can cause all sorts of problems as well, access is not designed to run over the network like that.. for more on that read this thread - Start 5 posts down
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=479&KW =OLEDB%2E4%2E0
3rd: If the app does not run using the connection string like I say to use then the problem is 100% on their end and is either related to permissions or the fact they are keeping the access database on a network path which is BAD BAD BAD... no quality host that knew what they are doing would set it up that way.. ultimately you don't want to host asp with a place that has a setup like that
4th: If you want to try some other stuff out we have a free guestbook, asptest, and a free version of aspbanner you can try out as well... www.cjwsoft.com
5th: If you need a quality asp host that knows what they are doing and offers great asp support www.alentus.com is the place
6th: Your right, it is not the code, its the data connection
, If you would like me to, I also have no problem going into your machine real quick via remote access and setting permissions / putting the right connecting string in there for you.
I need to go in as an administator though to set the permissions.
,
Here is an example of a query I made in MSACCESS that deletes all users that belong to Group ID of 3. I used the graphical query designer in MSACCESS to do this. Took a few minutes.
DELETE
FROM ASPP_Users
WHERE (((InStr([ASPP_Users]![Groups],"*3*"))>"0"));
Because of the way groups are stored in the Groups fields you have to use the InStr function to determine if the user is part of a particular group
We are deleting all users that of Group ID of 1 so we look for *3* in this example
The SQL statement for a MSSQL database may be slightly different but the general Idea is the same
The SQL statment used in an ".asp" page will be very similar as well.
SQL Statements are the TRUE POWER of working with databases. They are something everyone should learn to work with because they allow you to do some very powerful things., YES.. you need to edit your SWF file to link to the aspbanner system...
example.. the link may look something like this
http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=60
of course you need to put in the right information for your site and whatever banner ID it is in your system
Like it says above.. if you save the new banner at least once and then come back to edit that link will be generated for you at the bottom of the edit page.
then when your flash banner is clicked on it will go track the click and then send them to the "link_url" specified for that banner when you edited it.
(you need to enter the final destination url there if you want that to work)
, Sorry you feel that way, not my intention. I'm not threatening anything. I was very happy you responded when did so there no reason for any bad feelings. I like your product as I said before and have no problems with it. Sorry again, that was not my intention. Merry Christmas…
, I am using VS 2005, when i go to new project in visual basic folder asp.net web application is not there..
Can i add it somehow?
, Hello,
Sorry, I do not have any good ideas on this one...
Domain Name Masking can cause issues with quite a few things.
cwilliams38366.3136342593, well, I think John just told you what the deal is. He knows more about ASP.NET than anyone else I know.
If you are going to run a non-standard setup then you are going to have big problems like you are having. , Different Versions of the Access Database
Below is a zip file with many alternate versions of the Access Database provided to help with installation and general usage.
2005-02-20_155310_ASPProtect_Database_Versions.zip
ASPProtect.mdb is saved as an Access97 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2000 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2000.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database (password "temp")
ASPProtect_access2002_no_password.mdb is saved as and Access 2002-2003 database with no password set on it
Try to use the newest version as server odbc drivers sometimes have to use the newest version for everything to work correctly. No password version is provided because sometimes there are issues connecting to a database with a password set on it.
Default username for access databases is of course "admin" but you really dont use that except in the data connection information.
cwilliams38403.6840277778, We have upgraded to IIS 6, but as I recall aspbanner continued to
work fine for at least 3 months after the upgrade. I would like
to reinstall, but I cannot find the zip file.
Cookies are turned on in my browers, I've tried both Internet Explorer and FireFox, niether stay logged-in.

, I am a little confused here. I am in the process of understand how this all works, mainly the email portions as I am running this through a home server (Windows XP). I have tried test emails, but they are not going threw. I ran the server_info.asp and it is telling me that I do have CDONTS installed, version 2.8. Then I tried running, the test_mailer_component.asp. This page is telling me it is not installed. This process lead me to start looking at my components for my IIS. Everything appears to be there.
Any ideas, where I should go next. It appears the CDONTS code is in every page that it needs to be in, and it appears that I have it installed, but there is a disconnect between the two..
, Does ASPProtect 7 work with SQL 2005?, I finally spoke with someone who knew what I was asking for and they set the rights and all is fine.
Thanks for your help. Wish all business' had customer support like here
, No I didn't...
The one I tried is the hosted one at my provider which I gave you the link for.
Thanks very much.
I will get that one and it may be much easier if I need to get into the Nitty Gritty of the database at some time.
Thanks
, Running in parallel for testing is actually a smart way to do it, but the truth is you don't use anything from version 6 except the upgraded database (we have a tutorial on how to upgrade the database)
Version 7 was a drastic change /rewrite to all of the asp files that come with the application. So you will be starting out with fresh version 7 ".asp" files and folders... You will also find that once you get version 7 running that editing certain things like the look of the users area and the login screens is much easier to do.
That being said any of your own ".asp" pages that you protect use the same protection code they always did, so there will be no drastic changes needed there when you do finalize the upgrade.
If using MSACCESS as the database I suggest installing the application somewhere in your web and using a fresh ASPProtect 7 database. Once you are familiar with the setup and everything is working fine. Attempt the database conversion and when your done stick your converted database in there and see if everything is ok.
Also, if you already purchased the application download the latest version before doing the install. It's the same download URL. If you don't have it email me and I can hook you up. I have added some new features and fixed a couple minor things since it's release.
So far the feedback on version 7 has been awesome..
cwilliams38414.0133680556, it's ok
one step at a time and at each step testing things.. then when you mess something up you can figure it out a lot easier
cwilliams38456.1106018519, i took another look at the file, and realized that when i was looking at the data structure i had confused "banner_image_URL" with "banner_link_URL". i lengthened the latter, and now all is good.
sorry for the false alarm, and thanks for a very-to-work-with product.
, This first one may be an obvious one, but is it only .asp files that I can protect as in no HTML files.
Can the program be set to protect my whole https directory contents (though the answer to the last question may have bearing here - there are html files as well as .asp in there) as in http://secure.mydomain.com
Thanks in advance
, Thank you so much that works great.
I will test with the other settings on the email server again thanks for the advice,
best regards
, i will probably end up doing this myself, but dropping all the log data in a sql table would be nice as it offers much more flexibility on how an admin can keep track and use the data. Browsing through each log file is very inconvenient. I can search for text in the files (server-side, others with a shared server would probably have to separately download all log files first), but with the current method I don't have the following important options:
- cannot sort by any criteria
- quickly see a list of all login attempts by a specific user (i need to search each log file individually for this info)
if you had an option during setup perhaps (or elsewhere) in a future version that allowed an admin to specify the preferred logging method (separate files or a table in sql) i'm sure many admins would find it very useful to have a database alternative of keeping track of users becuase it would offer the two benefits listed above, plus more.
, I'll give it a shot loading it on the laptop and publishing it, if it doesn't work I'll let you know and you can take a look at it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the help tonight...
Good luck pouring that concrete!
, Hello,
You'll need to find a validation function to test for it.
Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.
I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.
Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.
Good Luck..
And if ya find anything post it here if ya like
cwilliams38381.5607638889, hi,
Sounds like permissions.. the text file that the config file data is not being written to.
open the file "data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.asp" with a text editor and see if your values are getting saved.. if they are not its permissions to that folder and file as far as not saving config settings goes.
You may also want to check out "data/show_path_info.asp" which if run from the browser has info on manual/alternate setup scenarios.. as far as what directories you put things in and also editing the config file manually.
lastly make sure the filesystem object is not disabled by something like norton script blovking or something similar which can also cause trouble regarding writing to text files.
, Dear Support Team
I have read and Installed your v8 banner software
exactly as explained on XP pro which contains other asp working app.
I have problems with the " Application " and " Session" in your scripts
things that make the iis fall dead.
also in the file asp _unlimited_config.asp
you have exlained that every thing must be kept without the "" marks.
well i get http 500 error cause of it.
Please advise
Thanks

, This is a great article for newbies..
Hints & Tips when working with ASP
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp
cwilliams38436.5949768519, Nobody ever asked me, so i guess npegley sorted it.
The solution is indeed a single line added to your button form code ..
eg :
<input type='hidden' name='return' value='http://www.your-return-url/here.asp'>
This will overwrite any settings you have in your paypal preferences.
I posted this reply for anyone stumbling on here with the same problem. Hope it helps. :)
Dave.
, well, assuming that function works and is vbscript not vb
(if it is vb code it may need some conversion work)
anyway
in "users/add_new_account.asp"
you would put the code for that function anywhere in the page.. it does not matter where as long as it is in code tags <% %>
then.. right under this part of the same page
If Zipcode_Postal_Code_Required = True Then
If Zipcode_Postal_Code = "" Then
ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You need to enter a Zipcode_Postal_Code.\n\n")
End IF
End If
add this
If Check_Postcode(Zipcode_Postal_Code) <> True Then
ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You need to enter a Valid Zipcode_Postal_Code.\n\n")
End If
No guarantees but that is the gist of it
cwilliams38381.6456828704, When using this code:
<!------- ASPBanner Ad code ------------->
<script language="JavaScript"> var code = '';
var now = new Date();
var nIndex = now.getTime();
document.write('<s' + 'cript src=" http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/injectbanner.asp?Ban nerZone=6&nocache=' + nIndex + '">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">document.write(jscode);</script& gt;
<!--------- End ASPBanner Ad code --------------->
I receive an error that jscode is undefined. The banner will not display.
Any ideas how to fix this?
, do you want my help making the database with your import file ?, I have a user who is trying to login. However, I am getting a error that I can't seem to find.

Any ideas

, You really should check out the documentation regarding the config file before you go any farther.
If the server supports ASP.NET you do not have to spend any money to have real fast loading thumbnails.
Also, licenses of ASPImage only cost 69.95 and regardless any quality host supporting ASP should have one of the 3 supported resizing components installed or else you should consider a better host like www.alentus.com Places like that have good hosting prices and give you access to 3000.00 worth of 3rd party asp components.
, Here are three known bugs and their fixes...
If you have any of these symptoms these fixes will most likely take care of them.
If you don't have a symptom do not make any changes as you most likely have an updated copy of the application.
Technically if you bought that app on or after April 27th 2004 these bugs should all have been corrected.
Description Fix
(no descriptions showing in pop up window)
Edit pic_window.asp with a text editor
Change
Set f=fs.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("pictures/Album_ID_" & Album_ID & ".txt"), 1)
To
Set f=fs.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("../pictures/Album_ID_" & Album_ID & ".txt"), 1)
Slideshow Fix…
(last image in slideshow it not showing)
In slideshow.asp
Change
<% For PicArrayIndex = 0 To Ubound(PicArray) - 1 %>
To
<% For PicArrayIndex = 0 To Ubound(PicArray) %>
Add To Favorites fix
(add to favorites feature doesn’t work at all)
Edit "album_uppermenu_inc.asp" in the scripts folder
Change
<a href="users/favorite_albums.asp?Album_ID=<% =Album_ID %>"><img border="0" src="<% =application("skinpath") %>add_to_favorites.gif"></a>
To
<a href="users/favorite_albums.asp?Album_ID=<% =Album_ID %>&Action=Add_To_Favorites"><img border="0" src="<% =application("skinpath") %>add_to_favorites.gif"></a>
cwilliams38104.7034375, I run F-secure on my laptop which has the anti-virus and firewall modules, and the servers aren't running anything like that.
, I have seen that happen before though it usually just happens once and then after that it doesn;t show up. It's the asphttp component doing it. The ASPBanner system is not doing it. I would try using banner calling method such as the xml parser method. It's usually installed by default on 200 and 2003 servers.
cwilliams38248.6400115741, What about browser caching ? It can happen easily especially if you update pictures over one another.
emtpy out the temp files of ie (take a while usually).. close all ie windows and go back..
Otherwise I need detailed info on the problem. What you told me is not enough to troubleshoot. There are so many factors like what image image rezie component you are using, the size of the pictures before conversion, server resources, what your doing regarding 3 albums.... etc etc
I have imported 100 pics at a time into an album on a fast server with no issues. Thats using any of the image resizing components.
If an album is new what your describing should never happen. Again, it think what your seeing is browser caching playing tricks on you. We have anticaching things in place so thumbnails never do that but not for the large images.
cwilliams38235.5737615741, Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., Just to let you know that i figured out my problem. I had to modify the connection in the email code and get the correct path from my provider.
I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Thank you
Adam
, MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , as far as permissions are concerned I wrote two large articles about permissions that cover everything in detail on how to properly set them
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info11.htm
see the windows 2003 and windows xp permission threads
From things you are saying I assume this is your server. My comments about the path looking funny are because very few commercial hosts would use the "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\" directory. If you are using that and that is correct info then that is fine.
as for knowing whether or not the filesystem object is working the best thing to do is to try to write a text file somewhere in your web and see if it works. Testing something under the most basic scenario is the key to troubleshooting asp issues.
http://www.devasp.com/samples/writetofile.asp
, OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.
What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.
I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.
Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.
Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.
That is all I can think of right now.
