,
I have set up a user to be redirected to a different page when logging in for the first time.
I assumed this function would count the number of times a user has logged in. When the login count was greater than 1, the user would be taken to the default.asp
This isn't happening. The user is always redirected. The user login count in the database is now 9.
What am I missing?
, Hello,
If you are using ASPProtect Version 7 it is possible because version 7 supports html emailing. In any other version it would require some custom coding to add html email support. You would have to sort it out by experimenting and editing the emailing code. All the email methods have documentation on the web in some form or another showing how to send html emails.
Also, sometimes depending on the email component being used and the email client reading the email a link in a text based email will get hyperlinked automatically. For example outlook usually will do that, but it doesn't always in other situations.
Lastly, we have special upgrade pricing should anyone want to upgrade to ASPProtect Version 7. It really has a ton of great features.
Best Regards,
Chris Williams www.CJWSoft.com cwilliams38415.6414236111, Just to put an end to this thread here is the solution for anyone reading.
The permissions were ok.
The data connection string never got edited in the "dataconn_inc.asp" file so it was invalid the whole time.
Once that was corrected the application ran.
So really this whole thread was over not following the directions and not editing the data connection string...
, I'll send you something.. , Yea.. that error is totally because the asp pages are looking for fields in the database that are not there.. and causing a nasty loop.
if using the option pack you must go over the directions very carefully... Make sure everything works step by step..
After upgrading to option pack code you either need to upgrade the database from the base system or use the newer database provided with the option pack.
Then.. you want to test every function of the groups.. if pages act slow and seem odd... especially the groups page and edit users page.. Then your not using a valid database. Either you didnt upgrade the old one, are not using the new one, or your connecting to an older verison by accident and not realizing it.
That's pretty much it... cwilliams38300.5555671296, After a user edit his information (name, email, etc), the session variables are not updated. In the user_area.asp
page, I "Response.Write" all the session variables, and they are still
showing the old information. I tried refreshing the page but to no
avail. The only way to update the display is to log off and login again.
please help.
, also.. the log out page shouldnt really need this but you can try adding this to it where all the other ones are set to nothing..
<% Session("Groups") = "" %> cwilliams38341.7215046296, I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks. , aspprotect does not use a global.asa file
I would start by looking there and seeing what is going on ... with line 33
I dont see how it could be related to aspprotect in any way
Global.asa files fire on their own and what they do depends on what code is put in them, ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting an image from being downloaded and also protects the true file location of the image on your server..
This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.
(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)
Here is how it works...
Basically we protect the image in 2 ways.
- We use Javascript right click disabling code that works in both IE and Firefox.
- We stream the image via a special password protected ".asp" page and use an image tag to call it. This hides the true location of the file. You can therefore keep your images out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the img tag html source they can not tell where the file came from. Doing all of this allows you to offer certain images only to people that are logged in.
All in all this is should be very effective protection. Yes, there are still ways to get the images like doing screen captures, but this will ensure that people viewing images are logged in to your site. This will in most cases keep them from right clicking and saving the images. This will ensure that people can not tell other people the image's url location and it will ensure other sites can not leach your images and bandwidth.
For the image protection examples to work you may need to edit some values in the stream_pic.asp file that are valid for your setup.
Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.
Now, you also need to call a valid "image file name" from the call_pic.asp file which is an example of how you protect a page with javascript and call a streamed image using an image tag.
Lasty, here is a great article I found on image protection and some of the things you can do about it and some of things you cannot.
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID =41 , This is the 1st time anyone has ever told me they had any issues with the import process so I need more detailed information.
What upload component/method are you using ? Are you using an image resizing component ? Have permissions been set on the import folder ?
And lastly.. Can I see this happening ?
If not please put it on a live server where I can troubleshoot it for you. Like we say on our site.
In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine. We also may require access to your server in order to troubleshoot any issues.
cwilliams38394.7298263889, If things are not perfect there will be no log files and no errors.. it can only be one of these things really http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo313-2.htm
You may also want to make your the filesystem on the server is working and not disabled by norton script blocking or anything random like that. Testing the filesystem object is best done by writing a simple text file to a folder. Plenty of examples of doing that can be found at www.aspin.com
Recent activity is temporary and admin activity in the admin area is not tracked. If your application in IIS has reset or there has been no activity in the users area or in pages you protected there will be nothing there. The busier your site the more chance something will be there. For example usually our online demo has something there except right after 4am when my server does an iisreset. , Oh snap. Tried the blank database and got the same errors. Fixed THE
FILE PATHS to conform to the AspProtect 7 setup, and it worked like a
champ. I still need to copy and paste the info, but it's working just
fine with the ones I add manually.
Moral of the story: FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER.
, this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , SQL Server Database Information Mod
This mod is only for customers running SQL server. It is a new stored procedure and a new version of the "server_info.asp" file that will display information about your SQL database on the Server Info page.
Purchase Page

This is for Advanced SQL Users only that understand how to add a Stored Procedure to a SQL Database as well as assign permissions and what not.
To install this mod you should have access to SQL Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer as well as be able to grant your SQL database user EXEC permissions on the new stored procedure. , IT worked just as cwilliams said. I did see the IP address being stored in the table but it didn't dawn on me that it was tied in to the view count, I tried it from a different IP address and it worked great .
Good coding Christopher
Thanks
John , Christopher,
When viewing a list of albums with the navigation option 1, is there a way to get the Time Created sort to list Newest to Oldest, instead of Oldest to Newest.
Looking at the code in albums_navigation1_inc.asp, I can not determine how this works.
Thanks for your help!
- Jason
p.s. I always forget how addicting this stuff can be...lol.
, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time, There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1
Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.
Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1
On a side note: We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"
I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups. cwilliams38433.5546875, This is amazing. You replied to question within minutes. Thanks for showing such a professionalism.
, Version 8.1 can work with MySQL http://www.aspbanner.com/aspbanunlimited_v8.asp It is just not supported at all.
The standard version can not work with MySQL. There were a lot of changes to make the new version work with it and I really only did ift because I have a couple friends with busy sites that could only use MySQL.
It sounds like your site is way too busy for using an access database as you mentioned. , I have been having some display issues with the .NET version of ASPBanner. I set the size of the image, and I set the size of the banner and there is still white space above and below the image. I am not using a text link below the banner, so I have it set to blank.
Here is a link to my page.
http://www.nababaseball.com
Two of the three banners in the rotation on the main page have non-white backgrounds so it's easy to see the issue I'm talking about.
Is there a way to tighten up the formatting so that the image fits onto the page in the size specified?
JDooley , Than you
I'm happy after changing to XML parser for two of the ads. Later I'll change the other codes to XML, never to use iframe again! , New Version 8.1 Released
Whats new.. http://www.aspbanner.com/v8_notes.asp
Upgrade Instructions...
Upgrade at your own risk. Though we try new versions are not always perfect due to minor bugs we may miss.
Back up your old setup so you can revert back if necessary..!!! Save your data connection string info in a text file so you have it. You can get that by viewing the system info page in the admin area.
Carefully copy all the ".asp" files from the new version to the old. Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner folder. Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner/scripts folder
Copy the aspbanner/images folder because there are some new images
Be sure to also copy the "data/config" folder files.folders as well as a lot of that is new including the actual config file. If you dont get the new config file copied in there you will have problems later on with some of the new features.
Be sure to create a new folder in the "data" folder called "tempstats" Make sure it has proper permissions if you plan on using the delayed stats feature as the stats gets temporarily stored there.
Go back to the area where you originally setup the data connection and do that again...
From the web browser run the following URL
http://yoursite/data/config/aspbanner_unlimited.asp
Replace "yoursite" with the proper url info relevant to your web site location.
When run via the web server that page will ask for a password. By default it is "temp". You should change it later on for security reasons. That page tells you how.
Now... moving on..
There were no changes to the database except for SQL Server users so you can use your existing database.
SQL Server users that want to use the new stored procedures feature (it's optional) will need to update their SQL database with the stored procedures.
Scripts to do that are provided.
ALSO: I have been running this new version using SQL Server Stored Procedure mode for a 1 week on a special banner server that serves banners to many of my own sites. I have also been using the new Delayed Stats feature.
All I can say is it is running like a champ and the SQL server is using less memory than it ever did before.
cwilliams38291.7372800926, Ok, have contacted the web hosts. Thank you for your help so far
Regards
Andy
, Sounds crazy. I recently took over this web site and all IT duties. User today said member area was not working. All pages would not display. After restoring some files I got the members area partially working. But I cannot find where the database sits. I am able to get in and view users in the admin are and log in as a member. Thanks., More info on the groups session variable.
Session("Groups") will contain the ID numbers of whatever groups the user is a part of. It does not store the descriptive name of that group. It will show the same data that is actually stored in the "Groups" field in the database.
for example it might hold a value like this
*2*,*5*,*9*
meaning a user is part of groups 2, 5, and 9
so if you wanted to check to see if a user was part of a particular group you would do something like this
<% If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*9*") Then Response.Write("You are a member of group 9") End If %>
Taking this even further, if you really wanted to get a particular group's name or description you would have to query the database like so. In this case we ask it the name and description for group 9.
Group_ID=9 Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString Set cmdTemp = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") Set CmdEditGroup = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") cmdTemp.CommandText = "SELECT " & tbl_label_groups & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_groups & " WHERE (Group_ID = " & Group_ID & ")" cmdTemp.CommandType = 1 Set cmdTemp.ActiveConnection = ConnPasswords CmdEditGroup.Open cmdTemp, , 0, 1 Group_Name = CmdEditGroup("Group_Name") Group_Desc = CmdEditGroup("Group_Desc")
, Thanks, I figured that out!
I managed to get the gallery running, minimally, on the test server, so now on to the real thing.
Thank you!
- Jason ,
I have switched to Alentus and have the permissions set correctly and Parent paths turned on. I cannot figure out how to connect to the database. Should I have the database in the aspprotect/data/database folder, or in the data folder that Alentus has in my root directory? once that is determined, how do I decide what the path to that database is? I have tried many things, but this is what the setup page tells me to enter in the data_conn file DBQ=D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data\database\ASPP rotect_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp
Thank You , ((TITLE EDITED BY ADMIN))
it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.
Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...
, Need to clarify something..
Your talking about the page where a new user registers right ? Your not talking about adding a new user from the admin area ?
Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.
I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.
Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code. cwilliams38164.8115046296, how di I change the currency dollar sign to gdp pound sign ?
I need all my tranactions in gdp puund sterling to use on paypal

simon , How to set a new users expiration date.
You'll need to edit the "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor.
Find this section..
<% CmdAddUser.Fields("ValidateEmailCode") = ValidateEmailCode CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = "" ' PUT YOUR CODE HERE CmdAdduser.Update ID = CmdAdduser("ID") CmdAdduser.Close Set CmdAdduser = Nothing ConnPasswords.Close Set ConnPasswords = Nothing %>
You'll want to add code like this right between the Acccess_Level and Updates section
CmdAddUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Date + 60
That will give take todays date and add 60 days to it. You can of course do whatever you want here.
Actually, any database value for the user can be set during registration.
You can also change the default Access_Level to whatever you like. cwilliams38403.6828587963, Hi,
I have just one quick question, I know this works with Paypal but does this work with Merchant Account?
How difficult it is to make it workable with Merchant account? I appreciate your answer.
Thanks.
, okay thanks, Its still not there as labeled 'internet guest'. There's a 'guest' and a host of others. Is there a way to identify it as the proper guest account to use with ASPProtect?
Also, looking through support documentation, I see other possibilities it could be (http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/permissions.asp). Is there a way of telling which the problem is and whether we use a dsn connection or not?
The error we are getting is
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1340 Thread 0x17a4 DBC 0x162becc Jet'.
/aspprotect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 11 , MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.
MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , Hello cwilliams, and thank you for the fast reply.
Well, i have tryed with the ASPImage enabled and disabled, with the same results. I have used gifs and jpgs in the tests. I have made some different test. Some with uploading the picture over an excisting picture and some as the first picture. Same results. Everytime, itīs the 2nd thumbnail that wonīt show itself, but the large picture will show, if you press the thumbnail.
I have tryed to look in the code (view_ad.asp), but as far as i can see, everything seems just fine ?!
I know, it wasnīt much help i could give you, but i think i have tryed all the possibilities.
Best regards, Erling
