Yup, it probably means the virtual directory is not configured as an Application in IIS.
You did put this in a plain folder in your web, correcct ?

Regarding the application settings for the virtual directory.. if it is your server you set that stuff up in the IIS console.
If hosted somewhere it is there responsibility to have that set up correctly for you and you need to contact them and ask them what the deal is. cwilliams38455.9035300926, I need to use SQL for other reasons than efficiency. If I create 2-seperate databases, would there be a lot of code to edit?

There are no country and city lists in ASPClassifieds. cwilliams38391.0301388889, Not really. The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users. Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers. Not a big deal.
As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory. I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.

if it has been written to the database thats good.. if not it is a data connection issue most likely..
if it did get saved... though it usually should not take time to apply it make take up to an hour for the change to take effect in the actual banner rotation.. give it a little time, My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , ok, it works fine here with that password encryption key and password you sent me. I also looked in the database and I got the same encrypted password password which definetly has a weird hidden line break in it. (for example if you copy and paste it only the 1st part shows up like when you pasted it above.. as it is really the same length as the that guys email address)
Maybe you do not have the newest code. (I added some code to check for those weird line breaks and take care of them) I am going to PM you the latest version. Please download it and just take the "check_user_inc.asp" file out and copy it into your existing install.
Then try logging in as that person again.
If that works you should also grab the new version of "password_admin/check_admin_inc.asp" as well, yes, any page you want protected needs to be edited..
You can probably have a login box on a non protected page. Just copy the generated source html form code for the login box of a protected page. Then put it on your non-protected page, but change the action to the page you want them to log in to.
In other words go to a protected page. See the login box, view the html browser source and use that to make your login form on the main page.
I have not tried it with .NET but I am pretty sure you can do it since it pretty much works the same as the classic asp version of ASPProtect.

We did everything the web host asked us to do, that is, changed all references to the C drive to new references to the D drive, but the error is still there. We also never changed any passwords (as far as we can remember). Can someone please tell us where to look (also which file might tell us what the correct password is in case it has in fact been changed.

My guess is that this is an issue with the fact that I'm in a shared hosting environment that is restricted by CAS. Before I move to a dedicated server, I'd like to verify that this is the issue. I'd appreciate your input.

, I recently upgraded my ASPclassifieds from MS Access to SQL. The application launches, I can browse existing catagories, etc. but when I try clicking on the login, guestbook, register or accessing the classifieds_admin, I get the HTTP 500 - Internal server error. Guessing this must be a folder or file permission issue? Have tried changing IUSR permissions but nothing helps.

Thanks, lancem , I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

, I just remembered the current skin is stored in a text file in the pictures folder. If it did not have permissions for writing it could give you trouble. That could of had something to do with it.cwilliams38295.3821064815, Actually this was rather easy to fix. Once you restrict the permissions on the folder, open up IIS admin. Goto the selected folder, and right click/properties. Once there you modify directory listing and add defauly.asp to documents. This will provide an automatic load with you enter in the unmask route.  , its no different than linking to an image or another page. you have to adjust the path to the include file based on what directory you are in.. or you get an error
This is noted in the admin area on the code generator page which also gives you 2 examples of ways of calling the server side include. (Virtual or File include)

Nick , These are 4 valid examples of calling a flash movie.
The more simple examples may cause problems for people that don't have the flash plugin installed. I really do not know as I am no flash expert. All these work fine for me. Of course I have the latest flash plugin installed. Perhaps some of you can shed some light in this. The 3rd and 4rth examples are obviously only slightly different and mention different versions of flash as far as downloading the plugin goes.

, been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts
it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database
like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation

Changing it higher is done at your own risk. cwilliams38300.5727314815, If you are developing using Windows XP Pro and running the NTFS file system setting proper permissions on a folder in your website requires that you 1st disable simple file sharing.
To do so open up "my computer". At the top open up "tools/folder options"
Then the "view" tab.
Then at the bottom uncheck "use simple file sharing"
After that that is done... using "my computer" browse to the folder in your web that you need to set permissions on.
Right click on that folder and then choose the "security" tab.
(If simple file sharing is on that tab wont be there)
Give the "Internet Guest Account" Modify Permissions
This will check all the boxes under modify as well.
You can also give permissions to the everyone account and accomplish the same thing.
BTW:
If you are using ASP.NET you need to give permissions to an account called ASPNET. It wont show up in the user list. You'll need to click "add" and then type in "ASPNET"

the settings for sending email via ASP are no different then the settings you would use in outlook or something... except sometimes on the server level localhost works as the email server because they set it up to allow that

I did change the top_logo.gif and the associated link. That was on the default page not the Solid Black skin which is unchanged. After downloading/uploading the skins I tried changing it to one of the Beach skins and that's when it changed to Solid Black and has been stuck there ever since.
