Have tried doing that but same error...
, Well, I assumed I'd be able to tweak this thing but it is all so intertwined it doesn't pay to mess with any of the files. Hence, I'm going to have buy a different system only a week or two after buying the unlimited version here.
As I leave I want to give you some impressions here. While the system is low-cost, the 99 dollar version is missing a few pieces that I think would bring the value to 99. It is one thing to talk about the speed/performance, but to a degree that's hard to measure, and to anyone with web advertising on their site, performance will always run second to potential site income.
It definitely needs a user interface and registration for advertisers, and it definitely needs a single variables file for changing the hundreds of variables for which there is no control. I had to search on my own just to change the look and feel.
Lack of multi-zone support is a serious drawback. I would submit that anyone with a serious website needs it, and will gladly pay you 139 over 99 for just that one feature.
Take them or leave them, they are just suggestions.
,
well, you should probably be backing up the SQL database on a regular basis. That is between you and hosting company. If they let you connect via SQL Enterprise Manager you can do backups on your own.
As far as the aspprotect files and folders go back them up somewhere, and then only worry about backing them up again if you change some of the files.
That's really all there is to it. None of the ASPProtect files change on their own except the generated log files that you may or may not care about backing up.
I mean the important thing is the Database, and then of course any your own .asp pages that you protected as well as any custimizations you made to the users area or your site...
, LOL
, Sorry, I forgot about that when I got hung up on the install problem.
I'll tackle your explanation now to see if I can get it working. Since I already bought the software I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks
, Yes, thats cool.. post it here for sure.
Also, the way you allowed for your search engine is clever and probably was the easiest way to go.
You could do the same thing with the IP. Much easieri than the way I was thinking of doing it.
, Let me put it this way.
My home page (default.asp) is an unprotected page.
When a user that has signed in on another (protected pages) and has the remember me checkbox checked closes the browser cookies should be set for the next time they return.
When the user opens their browser and returns to my home page (default.asp), I'd like to put a message saying:
Welcome back <%Session ("Username")%>
How is this done?
, I noticed that is grabbing the wrong URL for some reason. Even when i mouse over the URL its somehow getting the users sub directory. How.. i dont know... when i erase that users in the url it works perfectly.
I am looking at the code in the .vb file and i dont see anything that could be causing it to do that... but then again i am no programmer LOL
Its obviously kicking in that users subdirectory somehow... what are your thoughts?
, well, I was curious myself so I just tried it.
Good news is it worked just as I thought.
Only problem is your changing things to allow authentication info to be passed over the net in a url. If you can live with the security implications then it will work. I mean a sniffer could see that and end up knowing the username and password.. not likely but just putting that out there.
Of course now that I think about it unless you are running under SSL (https://) when you log in normally that info is in the post info anyway and possible to get at.. course not right out in the open like when you put it in the url and less likely to be noticed.
As long as your not doing it to access critical areas like the admin pages... and you monitor the log files once in a while it's probably nothing to worry about.
, I posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry.
I have installed ASPProtect on a client's website and I have been
notified that some of their customers have been unable to login to the
protected pages.
On testing it seems that the issues seem to be related to how cookies are being stored by IE 6.
ASPProtect is being used to protect particular template files within a
Content Mangement System. 90% of the time it is working fine but on the
odd occassion particular cutomers are unabe to login.
After quite a bit of testing I have managed to find the scenario in
which it starts to have problems and was hoping you may be able to
provide a solution.
If a customer enters the wrong password, then reenters the correct
username and password, they receive a message "template can not be
found" from the Content Management System. This message is generated
when a url is entered that contains a link to a template file that does
not exist. In this case the template does exist. If I remove the
ASPProtect code the page opens without error.
Everytime they re-enter the details they receive the same message.
If they close down the browser and then reenter the correct details in some instances the page will open correctly.
More often than not, they have to delete cookies and temporary files
and close the browser. This seems to fix the problem again for
most users. For users who's web access is heavily cached by an internal
server, even this does not work.
Have you come across this problem before and can you suggest a remedy.
If you can email me privately I can give you the URL and access codes.
Thanks,
Stuart
, I am not talking about image resizing. I need to know if it is possible to limit the upload to images where their height or width is less than 500 PIX. , Can we get access to the source project files for ASPProtect.net since we'd like to put in some of our own branding on the pages and not everything can be done in HTML.
Thanks
, ok, I am running .asp pages and using the longer code method to display flash banners on my site.
I have noticed a considerable decrease in the loading of my index page when I have a banner called. When I remove the banner, all is fine.
Any suggestions?
Dave
, again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it
,
Is it possible to change the currency for
accepting payments? I will like to change from US to Canadian.
Thanks in advance

, You really should check out the documentation regarding the config file before you go any farther.
If the server supports ASP.NET you do not have to spend any money to have real fast loading thumbnails.
Also, licenses of ASPImage only cost 69.95 and regardless any quality host supporting ASP should have one of the 3 supported resizing components installed or else you should consider a better host like www.alentus.com Places like that have good hosting prices and give you access to 3000.00 worth of 3rd party asp components.
, Hi,
1. Two months ago, we have set up to use the Subscription services exclusively for all new members and renews. and removed the regular payment service, a carry-over from v6.
2. Many from the "pre-subscription" service have yet to expire, thus have a populated expiry field.
3. With a 10 month bridge before we get all the members onto the Subscription service the "Send email to users that are soon to expire."
is used to remind these.
3. When members RENEW using the subscription service, the Expiry Field is not Nulled and they become targets for future reminders although they have renewed as Subscribers.
XYZ signed up on Nov. 05 2004, we send him a reminder in Oct 2005 and he renews as a SUBSCRIBER. His expiry date field is not nulled and he will keep getting notices although he has paid for another year.
Hope this is clearer... Thanks
, You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.
<%
Dim BanObj1Http
Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn")
BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)"
BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1"
Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL
set BanObj1Http = nothing
%>
Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings.

cwilliams38248.6481365741, you dont want to use the virtual smtp virtual server method... you want to use a real remote email server with valid MX records..
ultimately though after all that is going is it is out of the hands of the asp code and it becomes issues other then the code sending the email... regarding to whether or not emails get blocked by certain organizations
For example:
I have many aol users sign up for various systems I have running without issue. I use CDOSYS with my own server mail.cjwsoft.com which has proper MX records set up.
I would also try to determine the difference between blocking and spam/junk email filtering. It is impoirtant to truly know what is going on.
Sometimes adding more information to the body of the emails going out will eliminate the junk mail filters from gettings the emails.
Then you have the various open relay lists that places like AOL use. If your email server or IP sending the email is on those lists for spamming you do not stand a chance. That is all out of the hands of the ASP code.
, My ISP uses ASPSmartMail. The email confirmation works except when I try to register an AOL user the server returns an error 500.
, Look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file..
You'll see the name of the cookie there and also get an idea how to access it.
In most versions it looks like this.
Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
You'll want the cookie for the username because the session variable will not exist unless they have actually gone to a protected page during that session at the site.
It would probably be best the check for both the session and the cookie. That will make sure people logged in that arent using the cookie option still see the message you want to display.
Sorta like this..
GetUsername = ""
If Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
Else If Session("Username") <> "" Then
GetUsername = Session("Username")
End If
Response.Write GetUsername
cwilliams38298.9175, it is not uncommon for folder permissions to be lost or changed on a server.. a lot of things can cause it
if it was working and now you can not edit or write new data to the database it is most likely permissions
I would triple check permissions... see my articles if there is any doubt on how permissions are set
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm
, Thanks.
clark
, right..
I had to open up the permissions to get it to work. I now have to go back and uncheck each one for directory listing.. :)
, You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.
You find this tag
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />
you change it to this
<customErrors mode="Off" />
If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake
If done correctly you will get a detailed error
It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.
You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc
cwilliams38454.4368055556, Perfect exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks
, I finally spoke with someone who knew what I was asking for and they set the rights and all is fine.
Thanks for your help. Wish all business' had customer support like here
, I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user, The pages in the ASProtect Full version that have emailing code in them are as follows.
password_admin/email_user.asp
password_admin/send_mass_email.asp
users/add_new_account.asp
users/email_password.asp
, Glad it worked
cwilliams38406.5549074074,
I'm in a bind cause I'm supposed to be launching on Monday!? I have four different subscriptions set up in ASPProtect and I'm going to 2Checkout for payment. When I go to 2checkout I have the same 4 subscriptions setup.
How does ASPProtect know what product id to use in 2Checkout?
I have the redirect setup etc. but it's using the default URL in 2checkout and not the product(Subscriptions). The only way I can tell what the user selects is from the price... and I'm specifying the time period, the cost, group in the 2checkout1.asp but I'm not getting the user set for the periods either.... my main problem is the interface to 2checkout... I think if a product id is added somehow it might work. What can I do?
thanks, -Jason
, http://gibsoncity.info/guestbook/default.asp
Reports 65-messages, however after the first 10 are displayed and you click on the More Messages button, I get the Page cannot be found error.
, Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code
to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes"
Else
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No"
Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name"))
End If
%>
The following URL explains what Redirects are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would
have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or
access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username
"paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<br>
<a href="main.asp">Home Page</a>
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then
%>
<br>
<a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a>
<%
End If
%>
<br>
<a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY>
</HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and
using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive.
cwilliams38114.6506712963, Thanks for the information. We added the name manually instead of using the App_Name variable., How can i get to this to register someone in the database only after the Paypal payment has been accepted. I was testing it out to see if it makes it to my Paypal account (which it did just fine) then I closed Paypal before paying. I logged in as the administrator and looked at the member list and the account was created anyway. How can I stop this from being created until "only" after the Paypal payment has been "approved"?
What if this person never comes back to "try again"? Now the username he used (and is inactive) is not available for anyone else to use. And it takes up database space.
I am using the Paypal (non-subscription)
Thanks in advance,
scottyFlasher
, I log all 404 errors on my site and since installing ASPBanner, I get a lot of the following error:
/aspbanner/edit_banner.asp?Banner_ID=11&User_ID=1 contains a broken link:
/aspbanner/right1.gif
ID changes and there are various missing links. Some missing links include:
/aspbanner/drop2.gif
/aspbanner/left1.gif
/aspbanner/right2.gif
etc.
While not critical, these are filling up my error logs and it takes time for me to sort through them.
, I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.
see this article...

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2026
Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc
, again I will ask you what is the real error??
see the link above when I asked you the 1st time.
(I need the error details and line number.. etc etc)
and what kind of a server are you trying to run it on ?
you mention xp pro but in a confusing way ?
, Did you do what that thread said so you see a more detailed error ?
Can I see the site and look around.. ?
I just am not sure what is going on from what you are explaining ?
If so private message me with the admin account details and tell me what to do to reproduce the error. ,
