so use the connection string the readme.txt in the sql installation folder file tells you to... it has the correct username.. I just posted that info above
or change the username in the connection string so its rigfht
or go into sql and give any user you want access to the database and use them
Any connection strings that come in the datacon_inc.asp file the way it ships are examples. We fully expect people to edit them.
Also.. the SQL scripts primarly goal is give you a properly set up database with correct files and table settings. Users and permissions often need a little extra attention from the installer as that part doesn't always get set right by the scripts It really all depends on what sql user you are when you execute the scripts. Many times the user someone logs in with doesn't have permission to make users and set permissions.
cwilliams38325.9116898148, Okay thanks, I'll have to consider wether or not to go down the path of the upgrade or cut my losses as the Access cannot handle the pressure
It's just errored out again with the following message:
msxml3.dll error '80072ee2'

Regards,
Dave ,
My site is composed of mostly asp based pages with some javascripting thrown in, but a fair amount is strictly html and javascripting. Currently I am using the javascript banner method throughout the site.
You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks.

, For pay signups you set the groups during signup it like this thread tells you to
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo186-1.htm
only difference is you need to specify the groups info like so (basically getting rid of the commas and just leaving behind the group numbers with a * around everything)
Also be sure to have no double asterisks
so, *1*,*2* would just be *1*2*
so, *1*,*2*,*5* would just be *1*2*5* cwilliams38460.5969444444, You would have to carefully edit the asp code in the "add_new_account.asp" file. It you look that file over with a text editor it is pretty easy to see where the text to edit is. Just make sure you edit it in the section for the email component you are using. Back the file up before you make any changes to it so you can revert back if you mess anything up., It runs on either... I used IIS
I dont remember much about installing it except it went pretty smoothly / no issues,
Is it possible to change the currency for

, My guess is they are not going to allow you to run your own oledb connector out of your own personal bin directory.
I don't think your going to be able to modify aspprotect to work under
that environment very easily, but I would give 1&1 a chance to
explain their reasoning and they might actually be able to provide a
simple fix who knows.
I have never seen a situation where a host goes messing around with
.NET that worked out good for anyone. I'm sure they have a reason, but
the entire world writes code to work on the platform as Microsoft
shipped it not as someone decided was a better way to set it up.
, that really does not make any sense...
I dont know what else to tell you as this really shouldn't be anything too difficult to sort out...
redirection based on criteria is not something aspprotect does by default... I try to help a bit... I've shown everyone how to do it in this thread...I know plenty of people doing it... I've done it myself... I know it works
let me ask you this... are you using ASPProtect 6 with the Option Pack ? I assume you must be or you would not have the Groups feature ? And you asked this question in the ASPProtect 6 section.
but then maybe your using 7.. I do not know
this should all work the same either way , The PayPal feature that is in ASPClassifieds has always been labeled as experimental and has never been supported as the documentation says. About a year ago I stopped even mentioning the feature on the product pages or in the live demo because I didn't like how it worked and I decided I would just market the application as a free based classifieds. It’s just not something I can support or talk about. To work really well it really needs to be coded to use PayPal IPN and a credit system. Where ads and various extra features cost so many credits and people have to buy credits before they can post any ads.
That’s about all I can tell you. It's just not something I support. , The company that hosts our business web site has been impossible to deal with in assisting me in getting asp protect to work. Getting the rights set correctly took 6 days and then getting parent paths enabled has been impossible. There last response was simply this:
The includes were changed so that if your server does not support "parent paths" ' and the "../" that you could easily change a few files like this and make the ' includes virtual includes instead of file includes. We didnt make them virtual ' includes by default because depending on where in your site you put the application ' the virtual include path would be different. They are also much different on a local ' development server than they would be on your real server ' ' Here are some examples of what you might change these includes to ' ' If you put the aspprotect folder in the root of your domain at your server ' example: www.mydomain.com/aspprotect ' then you would probably use ' ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/dataconn_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/config_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" ' ' Or if you didnt use the aspprotect folder and just put the contents of it in the root ' of your domain ' then you would probably use ' ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/dataconn_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/config_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" ' ' It really all depends on what works for your situation ' If you want more information on server side includes read this article at PowerASP ' ' http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
I am assuming that they will not enable parent paths and I need to modify some code. I do not know asp. WHere do I modify the code for a server that will not enable parent paths?
Thanks,
D , Hope the wedding went well. I have one this weekend.
I was successful at performing an upload. The free upload software was either not configure properly (probably) or not working. I downloaded the trial version of softartisan's upload (which is like over $300) and it started working.
Can more than one photo be uploaded at one time (like a whole folder full of photos) or does each have to be done individually? , Thanks for the install. After many hours I finally got part of the
system working. I can log in and log out as a user. My problem is I
want the pages
accesses by Members ONly. The database will contain the names of
the members and only they are allowed access, and no one else. I
tried Joe Blow to log in and it worked, the only thing is Joe was not
in the database and he should have been locked out and a page come us
saying something like "you are not a registered user, please complete
the membership application" and then link back to the root web,
application page.
I am also afraid of breaking the codes you provided thus far. I also
want the password protected pages in a sub-web of the root web.
This may sound like elementary stuff, but this newbie is having
constant trouble. I am also referencing books on ASP and Access
and VB and still come up with a dead end. Search the net and come up
with a few codes which are described as something I am looking for, but
dont want to add any thing like that for fear of breaking the whole
thing.
Any suggestions?
, Christopher
Found this but I dont really know what to do with it or even if its the right thing.

, also.. every once in a while I get some nervous person concerned about security... and the pros and cons of having parent paths enabled.
etc etc etc
so let me add this bit of info..
I don’t know what your hosting company will say because it is an iffy topic and those that understand it have a hard time explaining it to someone who doesn't. Also usually the hosting company doesn't have a clue except they heard it was a security risk.
Here is the low down from someone that really understands it... (well, at least I think I do)
The only real security risks are from YOU and possibly other people hosting on the same server if they have parent paths enabled that is.
Meaning your site visitors can't possibly do anything with it unless of course you let them upload and run their own asp files to the server.
Anyway.. if YOU run malicious asp scripts you could potentially attack other sites on the server and look at things you shouldn't. As could other sites on the same server do to you I suppose.
So, unless you plan on doing that or some other site admin on the server does it to you its not really a concern. Just an advantage in coding abilities.
If you attack someone elses site on the server or lurk where you shouldnt then you are probably violating your hosting agreement.
99% of the time everyone gets all nervous over nothing.. half the people nervous about this have sites nobody would ever want to hack anyway.
Many people with a really important/busy sites are going to have a dedicated server somewhere so the setting is not relevant..
The hosting companies of course have to warn you.
This setting was enabled by default for years on IIS4-IIS5. I never once heard one single real story about anyone attacking anything because of this setting. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen but I am just telling you what I know.
This is all my opinion so take it for what it is...
If you are a Hosting Company your better off turning it on at the customers request, giving them a warning about it, and in turn having happy customers.
The big hosting companies like Alentus and MaximumASP do it...
There are far worse things than this to let people do after all.
Beleive it or not I have actually been in servers where they gave the anonymous webserver acount modify permissions EVERYWHERE yet they disabled parent paths ???? cwilliams38391.6024189815, Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make? , ok, I just sent you a private message with download information.
replace you existing
"check_user_inc.asp"
"admin/check_admin_inc.asp"
"admin/email_user.asp"
with the new versions in the download
Do some testing to make sure that HANNAH password works ok for you.
Hopefully this cures the issue... If it works ok for you for a while I will offer the fixes to everyone and start using this code from now on
BTW: "admin/email_user.asp" had an unrelated bug in it that only happened if its error handling got triggered... it was posting back to the wrong page when that happened and causing an error , SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
cwilliams38390.5986921296, LOL , Ok, for starters what is the real error ? Please read this. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
2nd I always recommend using CDOSYS before any other email component. All servers have it running by default and ASPProtect supports some a html editor if you use that component. I would give that a try as well. It's the best emailing option. , Oh yes...I've changed the time a script is allowed to run before timing out from 90 seconds to 180 seconds on the aspprotect folder., recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.
Jason S. cwilliams38389.8791550926, I downloaded v7 3/7/2005
I entered a password that was supposed to be all caps with only first letter caps.
it is odd, if I go to other user and enter wrong password that does not come up. it apprpriately goes to a screen that says Access Denied.
thx , Hello cwilliams, and thank you for the fast reply.
Well, i have tryed with the ASPImage enabled and disabled, with the same results. I have used gifs and jpgs in the tests. I have made some different test. Some with uploading the picture over an excisting picture and some as the first picture. Same results. Everytime, it´s the 2nd thumbnail that won´t show itself, but the large picture will show, if you press the thumbnail.
I have tryed to look in the code (view_ad.asp), but as far as i can see, everything seems just fine ?!
I know, it wasn´t much help i could give you, but i think i have tryed all the possibilities.
Best regards, Erling
, That would not happen unless you added a target to the login form or you're code had a base target set.
Like so..
<base target="_blank">
I would really need more detailed information. It's nothing the system does the way it ships under normal circumstances. For example you shouldn't see that behavior in any of the example protected ".asp" pages
that is unless you have something odd going on with your browser settings or you made changes to the login form or code around it causing it. (or you are using frames and dont have some of the targets and what not set correctly)
My guess is that it has to be something you added or did, but I really need to know more to offer more than that.
cwilliams38419.7687152778, Chris,
D'oh! How completely obvious!
I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)
Thanks for the fast response!
Robert
, Thanks, I figured that out!
I managed to get the gallery running, minimally, on the test server, so now on to the real thing.
Thank you!
- Jason , Any updates on this ?, Hello dear Chris
I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.
Thank you in advance.
, If you have an album with more than 96 pictures, the spacing in the tables can become incorrect, with pictures touching each other. (This program is not designed to handle more than 96 pictures due to server speed, but it can handle more than 96 with minor changes to the code.) Also, after 96 pictures, the pictures will not have 6 on a line, but rather 6 on a line up to 96 pictures and then the rest of the pictures on one line next to each other extending to the right of the screen endlessly. To fix this, I simply edited the ASP code using the following loop. It can be a perminent fix, because I used the maxpicsperalbum variable to define the spacing.
<% Dim SixInterval For SixInterval = 2 to maxpicsperalbum SixInterval = SixInterval + 5 %> <% If PicIndex = SixInterval THEN %> </tr> <tr> <% End If %> <% Next %>
Then, the following code must be commented out:
<% If PicIndex = 6 or PicIndex = 12 or PicIndex = 18 or PicIndex = 24 or PicIndex = 30 or PicIndex = 36 or PicIndex = 42 or PicIndex = 48 or PicIndex = 54 or PicIndex = 60 or PicIndex = 66 or PicIndex = 72 or PicIndex = 78 or PicIndex = 84 or PicIndex = 90 or PicIndex = 96 Then %> </tr> <tr> <% End If %>
This code can be found in scripts/view_album_style*STYLE NUMBER*_inc.asp . (STYLE NUMBER depending on which style you are using (found in config file))
This change in code will enter a new table row after each 6th picture. You can have more or less than 6 pictures per line depending on the width of your files and preference by changing changing the number 5 in this line of code: SixInterval = SixInterval + 5
If you have any questions, JPortnoy@Checkernet.com
jamapor38210.5987384259, While I originally thought the login form on a non-protected page idea may be similar in setup to how our Classic ASP version of ASPProtect works I could not have been more incorrect. Truth is I forgot that it works a lot differently.
ASP.NET Web forms are meant to post to themselves and there is thing called the viewstate. (google it.. its a hidden variable the server creates in the form code that is required when the form posts back to itself.. and hold all sorts of information the server uses) Doing what you are asking about means disabling the viewstate and that can have big consequences and break certain things.
Basically you cant just put a form on a non-protected page and post to a protected page if the viewstate is enabled. Disabling it can break certain web controls like data grids .etc etc.. and can also have an effect on how the session is managed at the site and sometimes disabling it is not possible depending on what is going on cause you need it.
I am still doing research on the whole thing, but it looks to me like doing that is going to have a tradeoff of some sort.
That does not mean this isn't possible somehow. I am still researching and I am also going to see what John Evans thinks.
I told you .NET was complicated.
As for your other question that is something you have to sort out on your own by editing the code and recompiling it based on your custom project needs. It is not something I can help you with. , Hi,
ok, I am a bit confused... you make it sound like as if you are running a different version than you were when you ordered this a couple/few weeks back... that confuses me because you were able to log in to the admin area of aspprotect.net before? weren't you ?
there have been no changes to the download or the version in quite some time ?
I guess I need more information to make any sort of guess at this point. I do not know enough., Perfect. Thanks buddy :) eeye38433.0629976852, Hi, we purched ASP Protect a few months back and had it installed on our hosting company under a "temporary" domain name -- cidrasensors.com
We are now about ready to switch this development site over to production and I need to change the domain from cidrasensors.com to cidra.com
My hosting company wants us to create a new accounting and re-set everyting up.
So...based on this, I have a few questions for you:
1. Do I need to re-install the software? or can I copy from one account to the other?
2. Assuming I can copy the software to the new account - are there changes that will need to be made to point to the new domain?
3. If I decide I wanted to keep the first account alive for development purposes (never turn on the website domain to the public) - would I need to have a seperate ASP Protect license?
4. If I decided to ask you to do the transfer for us - is that covered in the $20 Installation fee I saw on the web?
, Actually this was rather easy to fix. Once you restrict the permissions on the folder, open up IIS admin. Goto the selected folder, and right click/properties. Once there you modify directory listing and add defauly.asp to documents. This will provide an automatic load with you enter in the unmask route. , humm, I dont know then..
If you want PM me your site info and I will go in and troubleshoot.
Frontpage or frontpage access, either way
and also the site URL , With ASPVendor you must use the SQL scripts we provide with the SQL Version to create the SQL database or else fields will not get set correctly.
I wish you would have told me you were using SQL server. It's important details like that that allow me to help and troubleshoot. , thats actually just the xml parser component barfing out on you.. it can't handle the load of being called so much on that server
you might want to try some of the other methods of calling banners, Ok I used the following for the sql string.. is this correct?
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = '-1'" & ")" , Thought that was already done....
Back to the drawing board... ,
