Instructions:

Download the latest version of the ASP Security Image Generator from this site. http://www.tipstricks.org/

Unzip that download and copy "aspcaptcha.asp" and "aspcaptcha_distort.asp" into the aspprotect "users" folder.

Now edit "users/register.asp" with a text editor and add the code shown below in blue. The code to add goes near the bottom of the form right above the submit button. Just add the blue code. The code around it is shown to help you find the area of code where it gets placed.

Your done. You just added a Capcha Security Image to your signup form. If you would like a more distorted image that is more difficult for an automated program to figure out change the image tag to call the "aspcaptcha_distort.asp" page instead. It will look more like this.

These are my personal notes on the new version of ASP Photo Gallery that should be out sometime in May/June 2004. Please ingore any typos.

This version may be more expensive than the current pro version as this is a major re-write and there will be a ton of new features.

new setup page makes setting up the data connection easier than ever
it attempts to determine the possible data paths and makes suggestions for what to try
when you finally get the data connection working it gives you a link to the admin area of the application
so you can get started using the application

all database table names can be specified in the config_inc.asp file for advanced users that they may need
to change the table names in the database.. helpful for sql installation where one sql database must be
shared by many applications

new data folder is the only folder that needs permissions set
before multiple folders needed permissions
now everything can be put in this folder... database,logfiles,configuration files,picture upload folders...
eventually all cjwsoft applications will do this allowing multiple cjwsoft applications to use that same folder
therefore making it easier than ever to setup more applications without asking your host to set more permissions

new text based config file makes it easier to add new options to the program without making changes to
the database structure... therefore the need for the configuration table in the database has been eliminated
this also reduces system resources needed to load the config data for each page because it eliminates calls to the
database for config data

added voice effects for data connection page, intro users page, and settings page

made it so ratings color was an option (red or blue)

fixed minor bug that wasn't showing fixed category heights when that was selected and am image wasn't originally sized that way during initial upload

changed logfiles dates so they always show up in the proper order 09 vs 9

added config option to change bit query value to 1 or -1
default it to 1.... this is a technical thing

added the extra options currently in the config file to the settings page so people do not have to manually edit that

added crystal ball feature to admin users screen... shows additional user info when you hold the mouse over it

Made search function highlight search word in results.
Made the search function search the image description text files as well

Eliminated the guestbook directory as there was no need for the guestbook to be in it's own directory. This also simplified the menu.asp file as the guestbook section could be removed.

option.explicit the entire application and get all the variables dimmed once and for all

possibly add some cool image manipulation functions such as rotation for the various image components supported

possibly add the ability to move pictures around in an album. and maybe between albums

add support for the ibulc bulk upload client that I recently discovered

If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things

1. invalid physical path specified
2. permisssions
3. filesystem object is disabled on the server

that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure

you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs

RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing

I did all that you sugessted and all failed, you  said "I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables. is this somthing I can change manually?  below are the steps I performed......

1 - made sure the web is it's own application in IIS

2 - Reset IIS in command promt

3 - Restarted the server, the only thing is I have not waited perhaps long enough for it to kick in. but it should have with the restart.

I am running windows 2003 on the front end with wondows 2003 and Exchange 2003 on the back end, is there anything else that may be causing this issure?

I need to see if this is possible. I want to create a browsing system such that, the user selects a Province from a drop down list on the main page. Based the selection, the username of all the users in that province will be shown. Then the user can click on a specific username and his/her portfolio (photo album) will be displayed.

is this possible? If so, How can I do this, please help.

I have connected to countless DB's using my own applications written in dreamweaver and have tested them on my own server and also my web facing one.  BUT this seems to be different.  no matter what I try I still get this error.

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x440 Thread 0x6b0 DBC 0x1f995bc Jet'.

On both a windows 2000 server and also a windows 2003 server. Also using both DSN and DSN less connection and oledb.

Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

How to bring up the Code Generators

Simply go to the zones screen.
Select a Zone from the list.
Check the "Show Banner Code" option.

Click on "Display Banners in Selected Zone"

I am still a little confused... one thing I would like to mention is that the passwords in the aspprotect database are encrypted... meaning you cant just add a password to the user database by hand because it wont be the encrypted value and wont work.

It is something the application takes care of when you add a user via the web based interface.

You can however still add users manaully or with careful import/exporting... but you will have to use the existing password conversion technique which is covered at the end of our upgrade instructions in these forums.

Basically you want to add a field to the "ASPP_Users" table called "Old_Password" and that is where you enter the password in plain text. Then after you are finished adding users to the database manually you do this.

You want to run a special page via the browser.

Which will convert the passwords to the encrypted value for you.

Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.

I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.

Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code.

I have a small problem, I have installed asp photo gallery pro on a hosted site, and after eventually getting them to modify permissions on directories it is essentially working, except that it won't delete pictures from an album. If I delete an album the pictures are left in the pictures directory, but the album is no longer displayed. If I then make a new album it is labelled incrementally... ie I had one album "album_ID_1", deleted it created a new album it is labelled "album_ID_2". I would have thought that the new album would be called "album_ID_1" ie taking the place of the deleted one. It seems to me that the delete album function isn't fully working either. My hosting comppany swears that the permissions on the pictures directory are set to full access for everybody. What have I done wrong?

You see, an include file is no different then a link to an image or graphic. The path to the include file must of course be valid. That file isn't in the same directory as that page so you get an error.

You simply need to make the call to the include file valid.

You should also look at some of the provided example pages and see how the paths to the include files are done.

You can also use a virtual include if you figure out the page for that. See my article for the difference between a file include and a virtual include.

The code generator in the admin area shows examples of both but depending on your site structure the paths may need to be slightly edited.

Server Side Includes are a fundamental part of using ASP and they are used a lot. Once you understand how include files are used you will think it is the simplest thing.

just change 250 to something higher.. I wouldn't go much over 500 though as it may cause problems.. I am really not sure.. Changing it higher is done at your own risk.

As for the emailing thing it is most likely an email sending issue more than a code problem. For example spam filters incorrectly grabiing those emails or something of that nature..

Best thing to do is try different things for emailing options until you get something that works. I suggest using CDOSYS with a real email server and using a valid email account for yourself at that email domain. SMTP authentication if necessary. This will ensure the emails sent have valid MX records and dont get treated as spam.

I believe what happened is we received the older copy of ASP Banner iwht our purchase of ASP Protect and were notified of a free update to download aspbanner_unlimited_v8.2_feb_26_2005.zip which we did, and that's the one i recently put on our site.

Anyway, I had inadvertently changed the user_id field type to "number".  When I changed it back to "autonumber", everything went back to normal.

I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db.  Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.

So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have?

ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups.

Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customer that was using them.

A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.



Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it.
Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.

For example..

You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly

Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
