Hi,

You see, an include file is no different then a link to an image or graphic. The path to the include file must of course be valid. That file isn't in the same directory as that page so you get an error.

You simply need to make the call to the include file valid.

You should also look at some of the provided example pages and see how the paths to the include files are done.

You can also use a virtual include if you figure out the page for that. See my article for the difference between a file include and a virtual include.

The code generator in the admin area shows examples of both but depending on your site structure the paths may need to be slightly edited.

Server Side Includes are a fundamental part of using ASP and they are used a lot. Once you understand how include files are used you will think it is the simplest thing.

My hosting company uses ASPEMAIL - and I am trying to setup the mailing settings on ASPPROTECT - but cant seem to get it to work.   I've tried many different options - here are two that are the closest - but have issues:

1. If I use the settings:

email component: aspemail

Mail remote server: my internal server name

*no smtp authentication

email mail notification - my email address on my internal server

***I get the following results:

       I can get get notified when a new user logs in, email a user from aspprotect user screen if they are in my company and have a valid email -- but I can not send to the outside world - I get an relay prohibited error.

2. If i try to change the setting to use the Hosting Website email server - I get the following results:  I dont get notified when a new user registers, I cant send to internal company people - but I can send to the outside world.

**any suggestions on what to do? I'm trying to work with the people who manage the mail servers - but since I dont know anything about them - its a bit difficult.

one more question.

To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.

I am trying to set up ASP protect 6 and have a problem that when a new user registers their email is not transferred to the database.

I can see the rest of their entries both in the database and in the admin/edit form but not the email.

Any ideas?

Well I'm in the middle of uploading the txt file and it's about half way done and sitting there...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This user showed me his site and things were working for me as they should.

We came to the conlusion that the weird behavior he was experiencing was because he was using AutoComplete in Internet Explorer....

It was automatically filling in the fields with his username/password that he had autocomplete save.

So it was a web browser usage issue.. not the code.

I have connected to countless DB's using my own applications written in dreamweaver and have tested them on my own server and also my web facing one.  BUT this seems to be different.  no matter what I try I still get this error.

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x440 Thread 0x6b0 DBC 0x1f995bc Jet'.

On both a windows 2000 server and also a windows 2003 server. Also using both DSN and DSN less connection and oledb.

Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

well, I was curious myself so I just tried it.

Good news is it worked just as I thought.

Only problem is your changing things to allow authentication info to be passed over the net in a url. If you can live with the security implications then it will work. I mean a sniffer could see that and end up knowing the username and password.. not likely but just putting that out there.

Of course now that I think about it unless you are running under SSL (https://) when you log in normally that info is in the post info anyway and possible to get at.. course not right out in the open like when you put it in the url and less likely to be noticed.

As long as your not doing it to access critical areas like the admin pages... and you monitor the log files once in a while it's probably nothing to worry about.

5300 users honetly wouldn't even phase the database or the code... even with MSAccess...you got other problems and I can say that with 150% certainty

my guess is permissions on the database folder are not quite right or the odbc drivers have issues.. something along those lines..

access databases act up when full modify permissions are not given to the folder they are in.... they can also act up if the odbc drivers are very new and you are not using a newer version of the access database such as 2002 version as opposed to a 97 or 2000 version

using a system dsn as opposed to a dsn-less connection can also cause BIG issues. always use a DSN-LESS connection

you can also have big problems if just the database file is given permissions instead of the whole directory it is in

also, the script timeout has nothing to do with it.. if that is happening something is wrong with the data connection like I said... no amount of changing timeouts is going to cure it...

I know it worked at 1st but it can still be related to all of this because when permissions are not perfect databases will work ok for a while and then act up. it all has to do with the temporay lock files that access creates and deletes on a regualr basis

I believe what happened is we received the older copy of ASP Banner iwht our purchase of ASP Protect and were notified of a free update to download aspbanner_unlimited_v8.2_feb_26_2005.zip which we did, and that's the one i recently put on our site.

  Sounds from your reply that something technical is going on to the point where I will have to hire one of our Web consutants to dissect for us.  We'll try again and track our issues and send another request for information when we can show you a specific example of what is happening.  I'll be in touch.

no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.

That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.

That was wrong of me but not what I meant. It seems as soon as I purchase something like this it doesn't work right and it can't be altered to work with what I have. The support ends up sucking or being none. Listen I’ve gone thru you're product and it's wonderful and does exactly what you say it does so that's a relief. Yes, that was it! I had not created the banner for that zone yet. Once I did it came up fine. Do I win the Bonehead of the Year award?

I am just implementing the product, and I deleted the included zones instead of renaming them. That is why it is up to 6. I am migrating banners from my current system before I implement the code onto my pages.

If I may, I'd like to ask another question. I use rotation on all pages of my site except for the home page, where the banners are all smaller and static - an advertiser can expect their banner to always be in the same spot on the page.

I am currently hard coding this via html, but then I do not have the ability to collect stats on home page banner clicks, so I want to use ASPBanner. My question is, can I do this without creating a seperate zone for each banner? In other words, is there a way to modify the html code (that works just fine) so that in addition to indicating the zone, it can indicate the specific banner I want to appear? I would then paste the code in each cell of the table, and alter the banner #. If I do this with just the zone, I expect that the page will randomize the position of each banner across the page. I am running Windows 2000 server. I do believe asp.net IS installed as I have the .NET 1.1 framework installed.

Funny about the bounce backs. I am at about 10% of my limit, which I control as I am the network admin. I'll check into that.

What method of displaying the banners are you using. Perhaps try some of the other ones.

Don't use the javascript method with a javascript based ad like google.. that's for sure.

good news is the filesystem object works as I wrote to a text file

this may end up being a simple case of lack of horsepower..

we may need to do the importing on a faster system and then take the database over cause everthing I see on your server looks correct

even so aspprotect is running so slow.. I have never seen it chug like this

that is because passwords in the import/export files are encrypted.. if you make one of your own you need to use the rc4 function in the "config_inc.asp" to encrpyt your passwords just like the aspprotect system does (requires knowledge of vbscript and integration into your export system)

now, there is a way around this

if you want to import a file you made with clear text passwords edit "import.asp" beforehand and change

 If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = UserArray2(5)

to

 If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = RC4(UserArray2(5), PasswordEncryptionKey)

that way it should convert your clear text passwords to encrypted while it does the import

If you are developing using Windows XP Pro and running the NTFS file system setting proper permissions on a folder in your website requires that you 1st disable simple file sharing.

To do so open up "my computer". At the top open up "tools/folder options"

Then the "view" tab.

Then at the bottom uncheck "use simple file sharing"

After that that is done... using "my computer" browse to the folder in your web that you need to set permissions on.

Right click on that folder and then choose the "security" tab.
(If simple file sharing is on that tab wont be there)

Give the "Internet Guest Account" Modify Permissions
This will check all the boxes under modify as well.

You can also give permissions to the everyone account and accomplish the same thing.



BTW:
If you are using ASP.NET you need to give permissions to an account called ASPNET. It wont show up in the user list. You'll need to click "add" and then type in "ASPNET"

I downloaded the skins, ftp'd them to the skins folder and can see them in the list of available skins. No matter which one I try to apply it keeps solid_color_black.

I need to see if this is possible. I want to create a browsing system such that, the user selects a Province from a drop down list on the main page. Based the selection, the username of all the users in that province will be shown. Then the user can click on a specific username and his/her portfolio (photo album) will be displayed.

is this possible? If so, How can I do this, please help.

ok, well if you want to test on your own....  in the ipn.asp file for the subscription folder you will see this area of code used for testing

now that folder will need modify permissions for the text file to be written to but this is a good way to test if the ipn.asp page ever gets hit by paypal.

ITS REAL IMPORTANT THAT THE TEST FILE CAN BE WRITTEN TO OR DOING THIS WILL JUST CAUSE MORE ISSUES

To ensure the text file can be written to and permissions are correct for that folder you can make a new .asp in there and run this to see if the text file writing works

   Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
   LogFileName = ("paypal.txt")
   'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it
   Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True)

Now, you can even change the location of the text file to place that does have permissions if you like.

This is what I would do if I was in there... then I would make some test payments using 1 cent and another paypal account (your allowed 2)

and see what happens

it is always possible the subscription code may have a bug in it. The last time I tested I only tested the single payment folder which worked perfectly. If I have time in the next couple days I am going to test the subscription stuff again. If there is something wrong I can cure it quickly.

The two routines share a lot of code in common.

Good Morning - I getting errors in my system log that says "404 file not found" for a number of files - Here are a few examples:

I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.

This has corrected the problem.
I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.

I will let you know what I find.
