Your SQL statement to the database is the key.
You want to change the sortby hyperlink on that page so that it will in turn change the dynamic sql statement to sort the way you want
Find
?SORTBY=Date_Created
change it to
?SORTBY=Date_Created+ASC
or maybe
?SORTBY=Date_Created+DESC
One of them is the default anyway, but I cant remember which is which off hand so just try them both till you get the desired result
near the top you can also change the default sortby when thet page is loaded
SORTBY = Request("SORTBY")
If SORTBY = "" Then
SORTBY = "Name"
End If
there you would use a space though.. not a "+" sign when adding the ASC or DESC
The + sign is only used in the hyperlinks because it means a space for browsers that can't deal with spaces in links
cwilliams38406.6011458333, Chris,
Well some good news
! This from my hosting company this morning...
"
I'd say that the vendor is right so I've submitted a work order to
create the *****.com/aspnetprotect directory as an application.
If there are any other directories for which this needs to be done,
please let us know. This particular task always needs to be performed
by our staff.
If you need to follow up on this job with one of our on-line or phone
technicians, you can reference ticket id 11860.

cwilliams38455.5654513889,
also.. you could try chaning your connection string to set the current language to english like in this example..
BannerConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=127.0.0.1;Initial Catalog=aspbanner;User Id=aspbanneruser;Password=temp;Current
Language=English;"
I do not know if that actually works but from what I have been researching it looks valid and it may solve your problem.
Also: The value may need to be Current Language=us_english
You'll have to try them, Chris, I'm having problems getting this to work. When I plug in the redirect URL and then try to load the web page, the Flash ad never loads successfully - just its black background in the 468 x 60 space. Here's an example of what I'm seeing:
http://www.innovationtools.com/Articles/ArticleHeadlines.asp
Just keep refreshing the page until the black rectangle appears. And here is the code I've loaded for this flash ad:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
codebase=" http://active.macromedia.com/flash2/cabs/swflash.cab#version =4,0,0,0" ID=banner WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60">

</OBJECT>
What am I doing wrong? By the way, I'm using the standard version of ASPBanner. Not sure of the version, but it dates from about 2002.
, Two things you can do to test..
make sure there is at least one ".log" file in that directory.. then if you go to the log file screen and it does not show up in the list the physical path you are using is just not correct
remember the physcial path must contain a drive letter (sometimes a network path starting with // is ok if they have it setup as a network drive)
the other thing you can do is use this script to try and write a simple text file in the directory
http://www.devasp.com/samples/writetofile.asp
That will show you if permissions are correct
, You can't unless you plan on editiing and custimizing the code.
The application is only designed to have one kind of admin and that kind has full access to the admin area.
You can of course give any user access to stats for their banners via the bannerstats page.
That is how it works. There are no other levels of admin access.
, As I'd said in my previous response, I found those databases and they didn't work. All three databases in asptest do work., ya it should have uploaded that no problem...
what about something blocking the use of the filesystem object and causing these timeouts ?
Your not running anything like Norton Script Blocker are you ?
Its part of Norton Antivirus or Internet Security and causes all sorts of problems with ASP when it is running on a server. Especailly when using the filesystem object to deal with text files and when uploading via pure asp.
It could be the cause of the all these problems or something like it ?
It will cause a timeout like your getting and give no real reason why.
More info on that.
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, Hello,
Yes, that is how it works. Unless you make modifications to the code there is no way to easily do what you are talking about.
If you design the site to be intelligent that scenario should never happen.
For example.. you should only be offering links to pages that the current logged in user has access to. You do this by checking the session variables and with simple if-else logic around your html links.
It requires some work but if you dont give them links to pages they dont have access to what you are talking about will not happen.
Here are some simple examples.
Here is an example using access levels.
<%
If Session("Access_Level") = "1" Then
' show links to pages that allow access level 1
End If
%>
And one for groups..
<%
If Instr(Session("Groups"),"*6*") or Instr(Session("Groups"),"*7*") Then
' show links to pages that allow groups 6 and 7
End If
%>
cwilliams38354.0786921296, The path is correct for the logfile directory. This is still not working.
, ok.. so we got an NT server with a 486 with 256 meg of ram.
hehe sorry
anyway.. I have the system running without doing any importing and WOW is it chugging.. I mean it takes a while even to edit/save a user
good news is the filesystem object works as I wrote to a text file
this may end up being a simple case of lack of horsepower..
we may need to do the importing on a faster system and then take the database over cause everthing I see on your server looks correct
even so aspprotect is running so slow.. I have never seen it chug like this
I even tried connecting to a 2000 version of the database and no difference.
I am not totally sure what is going on but the server resources available are scaring me... however this could be something new in the code that I never got a chance to try on NT server.. I dont think so though
how does your other stuff run ?
static pages that do not access a database seem to serve up quickly.
are you running any other dynamic code ?
, ASPProtect and PayPal are fully automated and ready to go.
Accounts will automatically get activated after payment.
We actually do not tell you to put nothing in the PayPal system for the IPN URL. Something has to be there or PayPal will not let you enable IPN. We actually tell you in you PayPal settings to turn on IPN and make up an IPN url because something has to go there. (I think we suggested making a blank asp page on you're site to send it to) It really doesn't matter where you send that but it might as well be a valid page on your site to avoid any 404 errors in your logs when a non ASPProtect payment comes in.
You see, we dont set that IPN url set in the PayPal system because each ASPProtect signup script directory (single payment and subcription) uses it own IPN url and that all gets set on the fly by the aspprotect system. There is a way to overide the defaul IPN url is what I am saying.
Also:
A lot of people already have something there and we didn't want the ASPProtect system to interfere with things they already had going on.
cwilliams38421.530787037, there is no straight answer to a question like that..
I think my code is very easy to figure out and work with...
What your asking all depends on your skills and also what sort of payment processing system/merchant account you go with and what sort of ASP example code they provide you, re-edit the banner to ensure your change was saved..
if it has been written to the database thats good.. if not it is a data connection issue most likely..
if it did get saved... though it usually should not take time to apply it make take up to an hour for the change to take effect in the actual banner rotation.. give it a little time, Most likely it is no longer supported on the web server. The web host probably moved you site to a windows 2003 server which does not support cdonts or they stopped running the IIS SMTP server.
You usualy wont get an error..
it is also possible that cdonts is boned up as it is pretty flaky and that tends to happen. For example sometimes the emails it is suppost to send get caught up in the smtp pickup directory and never get sent out until the server is rebooted.
You should really ask the hosting company why cdonts has stopped working. It definetly has nothing to do with the code if it has been working all that time. If CDONTS still is supportd tell them you emails are in limbo. Ask them to look and see if a bunch of ".eml" files are stuck in the stmp pickup directly and if so to please reboot the server.
lastly:
cdonts has been deprecated and now everyone uses cdosys.
see my article
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
, Thanks dude, I'll figure it out. I've been ripping apart pieces
of the code to get it. I'm in the process of pulling some things
out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code.
I actually had a lot of luck yesterday with it.
, It almost seems like allow images is denied. When I look at the ad it doesn't even show a place where the thumbnail or image would go:
Columns now are Ad Name/ Price / Expires / Hits
There used to be one before Ad Name.
Even unchecked (saved) and checked
| Use_Picture_Upload |
< = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature. |
, If you are using version 6 CDOSYS is not supported. That is one reason why version 7 came out. If you want to rewrite the code to work with CDOSYS in version 6 that is something you need to sort out on your own as I do not support custimization to the code.
, If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , How can i get to this to register someone in the database only after the Paypal payment has been accepted. I was testing it out to see if it makes it to my Paypal account (which it did just fine) then I closed Paypal before paying. I logged in as the administrator and looked at the member list and the account was created anyway. How can I stop this from being created until "only" after the Paypal payment has been "approved"?
What if this person never comes back to "try again"? Now the username he used (and is inactive) is not available for anyone else to use. And it takes up database space.
I am using the Paypal (non-subscription)
Thanks in advance,
scottyFlasher
, I am really starting to get the hang of your
software. It seems to me, you have thought of everything a person could
possible want. Before I try to tackle
setting up Pay Pal subscription payments is there really any difference
between a file include and a virtual include statement? Is one more
secure than another?
, as an update... it is now possible to use Website Payments Pro with classic ASP..
However, you basically need to own/run your own server because of certificate signing and special things that must be installed on it. The certificates you have to generate requires your paypal username and password so it's definetly not something hosts are going to do for people.
So... this still isn't plausible at this time..., Thank you so so much! I went to the admin area and changed the email component from CDOSYS (using remote server) to CDOSYS (using port 25 forwarding) and all is working great now!
Again, thanks!
, No problem. I get it now.
I added a Session Variable for "Counter". Then wrote an If statement around that. When the user logs on for the first time they see a window pop, after that the normal start page.
Thanks
, Got it working.
Had purchased a long time ago and forgot about needing to run the userreg.exe. All is well and thanks for the follow up.

, Hi Chris,
Our company has a big dilemma on how to manage the database for accounts that are expiring/expired.
We saw the function to email a batch of users who are expiring soon but this doesn't help us to complete the renewal process.
Once the email is sent, what happens afterwards? how can we setup the system so that we can renew their expiry dates or accounts without too much hassle?
The system currently doesn't have any renewal functions or to allow batch changes on multiple accounts at the same time so we have to manually edit one account at a time. This is extremely tedious if we have over 1000 accounts to manage (and we will).
If you have anything to suggest on all this I would appreciate it :)
Thanks alot
Sylvain
, Is there a way to upload photos to individual user directories? I don't want all the picture files in a single directory.
Thanks,
Steve
, SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on an aspbanner database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner table in the database

cwilliams38325.8002893519, Hi,
No, only ".asp" files can be protected. It is the nature of Forms Based Authentication when using web based scripting technologies whether those scripts be ".cgi", ".asp", ".php", or whatever.
To protect entire direcotries at once you really need to run your own webserver and use NTFS permissions and user accounts..... or if something special is installed on the server there may be ways to do it as well. That usually isn't going to happen under a shared hosting account but there are special authentication products for such a thing that some hosting companies do purchase and allow their hosting customers to use.
Using aspprotect we do give working examples of ways to stream and partially protect images and downloads while a user is logged in to an ".asp" page.
Also, any ".htm" pages can simply be renamed to ".asp" if you need to protect them. Links to each other need to be updated of course because of the extension change.
In my opinion the truth of the matter is most high end sites use Forms Based Authentication with scripts. Not directory protection as it is fairly primitive/old school as well as sometimes being confusing for the users of the site because of how the login window from the server often gets stuck behind the browser.. etc etc
If you have a lot of pages in a site that you need to add protection code to then if can often be helpful to use a good Multiple file search and replace program to carefully add the protection code to the top of the source code of the pages. There are even multiple file search and replace programs that can rename extensions which can be helpful for large sites.
For images and graphics you want protect you have to do some work and set up and intelligent system for yourself.
Lastly whether you use https:// or not is no concern to ASPProtect as it works the same under https:// as it does under http://
, that variable comes from the settings acreen in the admin area. If you do not have it set properly things like what you are describing will happen., Yes, you are right.
We have now tested it using the DSN less connection with Access 2002 and it works fine. We have also tested it again with a DSN using 2002 and this also seems to work.
The comment about speed is a consideration although I have not noticed any differences. ( we only have a few database entries at this time).
Thanks for your help
, I hear ya.. problem is it just does not fit into the banner rotation logic.
I know it sounds like a simple thing, but it is not because ASPBanner does it's rotation logic in a totolly unique way that no other system I know of does. It basically does everything in memory.
I just don't see anyway to do add what you are asking about without totolly re-writing how it works. The system would have to rely totally on complex (SQL queries / stored procedures) to do the banner rotation like every other poorly performing system out there.
It's really hard to explain, but I just no way I see to add it to the high performance application variable banner logic. If I changed the system to not use those application variables there would be a tremendous performance loss because the database would be doing about 90% more work than it currently does.
As I have said before sacrificing performance is just not something I am willing to do.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo144-1.htm
I built ASPBanner for performance and speed and that has always been it's main intention.
I leave the bloated features to the competition. If I lose sales because of it that is just unfortunate. I want the best performing system. The system I can be proud of. The system that can handle millions of impressions per day under a MSSQL or MYSQL installation and not even flinch. That is what ASPBanner is all about.
The other thing is pricing. The price is kept low partically because the feature set is low.
Maybe someday there will be a version with more features and less performace. I really do not know. Right now it's just not something I plan on doing.
, thanks for posting this... Since "private" is the default setting from what I read and setting it to "public" cured the issue chances are leaving it at "public" is the way to go.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e n-us/iissdk/html/33f2780a-eee8-4601-84b7-b489e4c756df.asp
http://www.w3schools.com/asp/prop_cachecontrol.asp
ALSO: since you are one the few people that has ever contributed anything helpful to the forums I am going to reward you with a free copy of the password expiration mod. I am sending you a PM with the download info.
, when I go to that url is seems fairly fast and somewhat normal.. even when I try to log in it pops right back up asking for login info again..
I would check to make sure you are not running anything that might be effecting your web browsing.. software firewalls.. ad blockers.. script blockers... norton internet security.. zone alarm... anything like that
they can all effect a lot of things regarding how web browsers act.
, The Pop-Up Javascript Date Pickers will only show up of your server's regional settings are set to one of two lCID values.
1033 which is English - United States
mm/dd/yyyy date format
or
2057 which is English - United Kingdom
dd/mm/yyyy date format
Many servers are set to run the default LCID which is 2048 so the banner system will not show the date pickers.
This setting can however be easily overwritten when using the ASPBanner system.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.
Add this code between the <% and %> tags.
Near the top is good
Session.LCID = 1033
or
Session.LCID = 2057
depending on what date format you are looking to use
Save the file and go edit a banner. The date pickers should be there now.
cwilliams38325.7403125, IMPORTANT UPDATE - READ THIS
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=205& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
The 2Checkout Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement 2Checkout Payments with ASPProtect. You must be using version 2 of the 2checkout system. They are phasing out version 1 regardless so everyone will be using version 2 very soon if they are not already.
THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR DESIGNED TO USE 2CHECKOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS. (see bottom of this thread for more info on that)
This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "2checkout_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via 2Checkout your system is updated and they will have access.
The 2checkout pack is NEW.. and was released on March 19, 2005. If you don't have it and would like it please just ask.
To start using this edit the "2checkout_signup/2checkout_config_inc.asp" file
You will be entering your 2Checkout Account number in that file as well as the URL you want a user to go to after payment. It is all commented in that file. (There is also a testing variable you can set to True if you want to do testing without real charges being applied)
After editing that file run this page.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
It will report back that postback url you need to use in the 2checkout system.
Log into your 2checkout version 2 account and under the "look & feel section" enter that postback url for both the "Approved URL" and the "Pending URL"
Trust me: You want the URL there for a pending URL because the 2Checkout system is quite random and 95% of the payments that come in go to the pending URL and end up being legitimate sales. (at least for me they do)
Now make sure the Direct Return option on that page is on as well.
If set to Yes buyers will be immediately directed to your URLs below once they click the Complete Order button. If set to No the buyers will have to click a button to return to your URLs below. |
| >> |
|
Save that page... and leave 2checkout.
|
Now, delete this page from your ASPProtect setup.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
It's a minor security risk and is no longer needed needed.
The basic setup is finished. All you have to now is set up payments options the way you want them.
Changing Payment Options
I can't seem to find the code where it limits the upload file size. I want to limit the upload size to 1.5 mg for all users. Also I've noticed that the 500 pix doesn't seem to work. As in if an image is bigger than 500 pix the script still uploads it. i am using Upload_post_VBSCRIPT.ASP.
I can empathize. It can be a real pain to stablize a server and fend off hack attacks.
As for beta testing, I was referring to once you get to the point where you're ready to release it to the public whether it's this month, next month, etc.
