Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 2:44:24 PM
I downloaded v7 3/7/2005
I entered a password that was supposed to be all caps with only first letter caps.
it is odd, if I go to other user and enter wrong password that does not come up. it apprpriately goes to a screen that says Access Denied.
thx , no worries from me. As with most software projects, i tweak the
heck out of them and then have to make a big decision about whether or
not i even want/need to upgrade.
KT
,
well, I think John just told you what the deal is. He knows more about ASP.NET than anyone else I know.
If you are going to run a non-standard setup then you are going to have big problems like you are having. , Great! Sounds good Chris. , does emailing work at the simplest level.. ??
meaning does a user get an email when you send an email from the admin users screen ?
if emails are not sending it could very well be the setting you have chosen for emails in the settings.
the best thing to do is keep trying to send an email there and try different emails settings until you get something that works... even when I do installs for people I often have to try a lot of various things before I get emails to send.. like picking different components and trying different things for the email server address because what they tell me is often wrong
also, sometimes emails get sent but depending on where they go they may get deleted as spam.. aol, hotmail, msn, and yahoo are famous for that , I'm getting errors when clicking the Update Config Button in the System Info page and when clicking the log files button.
I'm not sure if it's a permission thing or not. ASPNET and IUSR both have modify access to the _database folder and childs, yet I'm still getting the error:
Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\_database\xsd\aspprotectne t_config.xml" is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_database\xsd\aspprotectnet_config.xml" is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
Any ideas?
Thanks
 , Hi Chris,
I have a small problem, I have installed asp photo gallery pro on a hosted site, and after eventually getting them to modify permissions on directories it is essentially working, except that it won't delete pictures from an album. If I delete an album the pictures are left in the pictures directory, but the album is no longer displayed. If I then make a new album it is labelled incrementally... ie I had one album "album_ID_1", deleted it created a new album it is labelled "album_ID_2". I would have thought that the new album would be called "album_ID_1" ie taking the place of the deleted one. It seems to me that the delete album function isn't fully working either. My hosting comppany swears that the permissions on the pictures directory are set to full access for everybody. What have I done wrong?
Thank you
Nigel , I am using VS 2005, when i go to new project in visual basic folder asp.net web application is not there..
Can i add it somehow? , The webpage header for CJWSoft states "Web Development for Win NT/2000 servers" - a little dated cause it works just fine on 2003 too, right? :), I made the changes like you suggested, but now the page just times out before even loading.
<% ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\DrWeisbergUsers.mdb;Driver={Microso ft Access Driver (*.mdb)}" DatabaseType = "MSACCESS" %> , I had never noticed this before, but a customer sent me email to say that they had set up their aspclassifieds profile such that they be contacted by email and not by phone.
However, in their ad, their phone number still appears. The lines in view_ad.asp that check for True values for the Contact_Via_Email and Contact_Via_Phone before displaying that information seem to always evaluate to True, regardless of their setting in the database.
I'm using an Access2000 DB for this. When I open the DB in access, I see the checkboxes correctly unchecked for phone and checked for email. However, if I do a quick test to display the retrieved values in the view_ad.asp (<%=contact_via_phone%> <%=contact_via_email%> they both display True.
What gives? I have had nightmares with Access and its weird handling of true/false 0/1 yes/no fields, but this is driving me nuts.
, I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?
, SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
cwilliams38390.5986921296, IFRAME is just an client side html thing...
has nothing to do with .NET
will work with any page extension or server side technology
As you see from that compatibilty chart I posted a link to. Nearly every modern browser supports it.
cwilliams38155.4462847222, That worked...but when I tried importing the test user, the password was imported in an add formated...like it was encrypted, and I can't log in using the User ID that I imported., ok... lets forget about all this redirecting business for a minute
when I go to "GP01.asp" directly via your web site I get a big nasty error that says this
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'
Name redefined
/protect/config_inc.asp, line 15 Dim Address_Required,CDONTS_Installed,City_Required,Registration _Type,VerifyURL,Log_Off_Page
----^
then when I look at what you did in that file I see why
you have this code which is totally wrong because you cannot include the password protection file twice <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
it should be <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> and that is probably the root of this entire problem.. the redirection was working... but you were sending them to invalid pages with errors
all those pages are wrong... if you dont see the real error above see this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
if you look over the aspprotect 7 installation instructions that is the very 1st thing I tell people to do
hopefully this is the info you need to continue and get some work done , Verison 8 is superior in every way and the code is much more optimized so yes I think it would handle it better. It is still a lot of banners on one page though which means a lot of hits to the database if you call them all individually with zone calling code. SQL server would make sense more than MSACCESS.
Now, the only reason I said make one zone for all those banners on the home page is because a banner has to be associated with a zone. It would make sense to put them all in one because if you just tracked the clicks like I mentioned you really wouldnt be using the zone except for maybe when you go to view stats. , I think I've found the problem..
The password "abcdefgh" works
The password "abcdefghi" does not
(username "ace45")
Passwords can obviously only contain up to and including 8 characters... By some coincidence I only used short passwords with MS Access.
, ok, PM me some additional info so I can go look around.
I dont quite understand everything going on.
Let me know what to do exactly to be successful logging in and also...
Let me know what to do exactly to reproduce the issue and I will tell you what I think. , a. Sorry for the missunderstanding
b . Im running XP pro and done what was explained
c. The iis stops responding - Till I make iisrest
thanks
Ran , ok, well if you want to test on your own.... in the ipn.asp file for the subscription folder you will see this area of code used for testing
' Un-comment this section and give this directory proper permissions to enable logging to a text file ' Very helpful for troubleshooting ' Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' LogFileName = ("paypal.txt") ' 'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it ' Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True) ' RowHeaderString = "" ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & OrderID & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Custom & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & User_ID & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & subscr_id & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & txn_type & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & subscr_date & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Access_level & vbTab ' RowHeaderString = RowHeaderString & Groups ' WriteMyData.WriteLine(RowHeaderString) ' WriteMyData.Close
now that folder will need modify permissions for the text file to be written to but this is a good way to test if the ipn.asp page ever gets hit by paypal.
ITS REAL IMPORTANT THAT THE TEST FILE CAN BE WRITTEN TO OR DOING THIS WILL JUST CAUSE MORE ISSUES
To ensure the text file can be written to and permissions are correct for that folder you can make a new .asp in there and run this to see if the text file writing works
Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") LogFileName = ("paypal.txt") 'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True) WriteMyData.WriteLine("the file was written to") WriteMyData.Close
Now, you can even change the location of the text file to place that does have permissions if you like.
This is what I would do if I was in there... then I would make some test payments using 1 cent and another paypal account (your allowed 2)
and see what happens
it is always possible the subscription code may have a bug in it. The last time I tested I only tested the single payment folder which worked perfectly. If I have time in the next couple days I am going to test the subscription stuff again. If there is something wrong I can cure it quickly.
The two routines share a lot of code in common. cwilliams38421.6488773148, Version 8.1 can work with MySQL http://www.aspbanner.com/aspbanunlimited_v8.asp It is just not supported at all.
The standard version can not work with MySQL. There were a lot of changes to make the new version work with it and I really only did ift because I have a couple friends with busy sites that could only use MySQL.
It sounds like your site is way too busy for using an access database as you mentioned. , Christopher,
I have a follow-up to this question.
Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?
I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.
I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.
Thanks!
- Jason , I think you can either change some things in your PayPal account settings regarding your default currency..
or add a hidden variable to the PayPal form code ASPProtect uses like this guy did. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=237&KW =paypal
The hidden form variable code would go next to all the other hidden variables in no particlar order.. just look through the paypal code in notepad till you find a bunch of those hidden form variables lines in a row. , it's ok
one step at a time and at each step testing things.. then when you mess something up you can figure it out a lot easier cwilliams38456.1106018519, That's because when the page rebuilds, it uses the default number of
users per page setting. You'd have to modify that default setting to
have it do things differently. I used to have mine set to 500
users, until I got past 300... then it wasn't fun to show all users on
the page anymore. I now like 10 per page and searching for
specific users as needed.
But that's me. If you hack a COPY of your default.asp file (with the
original backed up as above), you can get the value set to one you
prefer.
If you want me to find the value, post and I'll look for it later on.
If you want to find it yourself, happy hunting! Just be sure to have a
backup in case you do the wrongest thing possible in your haxxoring.
, Thought that was already done....
Back to the drawing board... , You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.
You find this tag
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />
you change it to this
<customErrors mode="Off" />
If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake
If done correctly you will get a detailed error It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.
You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc
cwilliams38454.4368055556, Okay, I'm going nuts trying to find that settings screen.
I've got a dedicated server that I connect to using "Remote Desktop
Connection" so it looks like a regular Windows desktop. It's running
Windows Server 2003.
There's a program called "IIS Manager" but I've looked at all the
options for all the different sections and I don't find anything that
looks even remotely like that screen. And, of course, Windows
Help is no help at all.
What program do I run to get to that configuration screen?
Thanks,
Robert Gidley
, Actually, your whole site is like that.
http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/
You should definetly fix that.. I can't help ya with it though. You'll have to figure it out.
I know ya can do it...
later
cwilliams38394.7738657407, This relates to a part of the new documentation that wasn't ready yet. I just made a thread about it though.
Here you go. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ;PN=1&TPN=1 cwilliams38419.5353587963, I do not have any programming knowledge and have what might be a simple question.
I am having a hard time getting my hosting company to modify the rights on the data folder. They state they support ASP and access databases however this is the response I got when I requested the modify permissions set for the internet guest account:
Were the rights changed on the data folder? No, we do not manage rights to folders.
My question to you is: Doesn't supporting asp require those permissions be set on the database folder or can asp (not just aspprotect) work without those rights modified?
Thanks ,
Is it possible to change the currency for
accepting payments? I will like to change from US to Canadian.
Thanks in advance
Roy
, When I designed the system I never really intended people to type in long descriptions for pictures
and if they did I assumed they would use the enter key once in while..
but I guess people dont do that
This thread is along the same lines and shows what someone else did about this..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo99-1.htm
though they are talking about a different page its the same issue , Honestly cannot comment much about v7 since it was just installed on a new server. We have been running 5.03 for years so I'm looking forward to the new features in v7.
Lance , just FYI -- i added in a new data table into the database. I
havent finished implementing the whole thing across the entire site,
but it wasn't too difficult. Once I have all of the functionality
complete I'll post some details. Some of the changes are the
addition of a new album nav style which combines style 2 and some of
the features of the new data table.
Very easy app to work with guys.
, If the physical path isnt right and the permissions are not right it just plain will not work. You will not get an error.
If the filesystem object is disabled on the webserver it will not work either. Something has to be wrong.
Please start a new thread when the topic changes.. thanks
It helps to keep the forums organized for other users in the future. cwilliams38454.6146180556, new version is still not finshed as of the end of the year... I am not going to release it until I feel it is ready., ok.. Chris.. I am now kicking myself in the butt. In the setting section, I had to redirect certain urls and directories to the right spot. I forgot that I renamed the root folder.
Thank you, thus far for your continued help. It is greatly appreciate.
, I purchased the photo upload software and it all works fine, except when I try to click the categories I've created on the home page they don't show any of the albums I've created and designated as that category. I went to one of the example sites at http://www.minnessota.com/users/ place_new_album.asp?CatAdValue= and it works fine. When you click Photos(40) it takes you to the 40 photos. I'm sure it's some setting I missed or something simple. Could you email me back soon and let me know what to do/try? Thanks. ,
