ASPProtect v7.x runs on Microsoft IIS servers only. That means Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 server and Windows 2003 server. The web server must have ASP support enabled and support Data Connections. 99% of them do as it's a pretty normal thing, but you should ask and make sure your hosting plan supports it.
Before you even start please read this thread and do what it says. If any errors show up it is important you see the real error instead of a useless HTTP 500 internal server error. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11& PN=1
Once doing that make sure to use Internet Explorer as you follow along with these directions.
Now, unzip your installation zip file that you downloaded from CJWSoft. Use a program like winzip and be sure you have it set up to unzip the directories as well. You can also use windows xp's built in folder compression tools to unzip the archive.
When you unzip the application you should have all of the following folders and files. (more or less, it depends on the version)

Now, you can copy all of these files into the root of your website or if you like you can make a folder called "aspprotect" and put all of these folders and files in that folder. Either way it really does not matter.
Now, contact your web hosting company and instruct them that you need permissions set on the data folder that you copied into your website. This folder and all of its child folders need modify permissions set on it for the anonymous webserver account. It is very important that they set the permissions correctly and on all the child folders as well.
Here are some threads on exactly how these permissions are set. If you run your own server or are developing locally you can do this yourself. If not most likely you need to put in a request to your hosting company as you CAN NOT set these permissions via Frontpage or FTP.
Windows 2003 Server and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=136& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Windows XP Pro and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=56& PN=1
Once permissions are set.. run this page via your web browser
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
When this page is run it will report back a screen like so:

Now, take the connection string info it shows you. Edit the "dataconn_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system and use that data connection information. It should be valid for the server.
If you are using MSSQL server instead of Access please see the SQL database creation directions as you will need to create the MSSQL database and use a special connection string for that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=160& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Now, take the CookieEncryptionKey and PasswordEncryptionKey info that it gives you and enter it into the "config_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system. These will be the unique keys that your encryption will be based off of.
Ok...
The files have been copied to your website, the permissions are set on the data folder, and the database connection is ready.
Now.. run this page
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
This is a special page we use to get into the system for the 1st time.
If you get a nasty error when you run that page similar to this.
Error Type: Active Server Pages, ASP 0131 (0x80004005) The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
Then parent paths are disabled on the webserver and you need to do an extra step to deal with that. Follow this link. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=162& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1&TPN=1
If you get any other variery of "80004005" error then there is a problem with your data connection. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
Those errors are usualy related to database folder permissions or an imcorrect physical path to the database file specified though they can mean a lot of things.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see the admin area of ASPProtect.
Now that you are in the system you need to create an admin account.
Click on "ADD NEW USER".. fill out the info and add a user. You really only need to fill out (first name, last name, email, username, and password)
Now save that user.
You should see a new user listed in the admin area. Click on Edit user to the left of the new account. On the edit screen check the "admin" checkbox and save the user.
You just created an Admin account.
Now click on the "log off" button on the top menu and click yes to log off.
Now close the browser. Then run this URL
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/default.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
You should now be able to in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account you created.
You are now ready to go to the settings page so click on the settings tab in the menu. There are a lot of options and paths that need to be set on this page. Every setting is described in detail on this page. You need to go through the page and set things up properly. Anytime the page asks for a path to a url or file the page will auto generate what should be the path to use. (expected path) If your server has parent paths disabled a few of those auto generated paths will not show up. If that is the case run this url from your server and it should tell you the paths to use for those settings.
http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once your all done and the system seems to be running fine you should go back and delete the following pages as they are no longer needed and pose a potential security risk.
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
You should back up the original zip archive you got from CJWSoft in case you ever need those files again.
VERY IMPORTANT: The user passwords from now on will be encrypted using the "PasswordEncryptionKey" you specified in the "config_inc.asp" file.
If you ever change that key all of your passwords will be invalid and you can not get them back unless you know the key and put it back, so plan on never changing that key unless you really know what your doing and know how to decrypt/re-encrypt the passwords using a new key. (something we do not cover at the moment but probably will when we have time to make a tutorial) , The company is called Eschelon - there customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I have contacted them again and they said that they require the account holder to manage permissions, they won't make changes. I wish they would have told me that a week ago when I asked them about changing the permissions. They haven't responded to me yet how I am to do that though.
Frontpage ext. are not installed.
Once I hear back from them about how I connect to manage rights I should be all set.
Thanks again for all your help! ,
Hello,
If you see that when doing a view source then that code is not running.
I will need to go into your site and look as something is very wrong on a low level and I have no more ideas.
PM or email me the info and I will figure out what is going on.
I'll need ftp or frontpage access to the site. I'll also need to know the urls for the asprotect system as well as the page you are trying to protect.
CJW cwilliams38229.7996064815, I really can not support it because you made that modification and it probably directly relates to the issue your having.
There are many issues that can be caused when dealing with encryption. Sometimes the encrpted passwords can end up with problematic characters. etc etc Maybe the users are changing there passwords to ones that do that... after you fix them.. Its hard to say
I know as I had to sort things like out when I designed version 7 which has built in encrpytion.
It could be anything really.. since you made changes like you sorta need to figure out what is backfiring. There has to be a reason.
Chris , The parent paths things really should not be an issue.
This is an article from the troubleshooting section of the documentation that takes care of it all very easily.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo162-1.htm
As for a good host that knows ASP and does not mess around when you ask for something. I always recommened www.alentus.com
, We would like to use some of the variables from the user account in our web pages after they log in (something like, 'hello <user>"), but for professional printout reports using company name and user.
Could you offer some help as to what variable string we use to print that information on logged in pages?
By the way, the program is working great!!! cwilliams38446.6302083333, UPDATE: read whole thread.. Version has been delayed
These are my personal notes on the new version of ASP Photo Gallery that should be out sometime in May/June 2004. Please ingore any typos.
This version may be more expensive than the current pro version as this is a major re-write and there will be a ton of new features.
Regardless, special pricing will be offerered to existing users.
If you see any features not listed that you think would be nice please post them here. We will of course consider them.
ASP Photo Gallery Version 4
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------
Finished Improvements:
new setup page makes setting up the data connection easier than ever it attempts to determine the possible data paths and makes suggestions for what to try when you finally get the data connection working it gives you a link to the admin area of the application so you can get started using the application
all database table names can be specified in the config_inc.asp file for advanced users that they may need to change the table names in the database.. helpful for sql installation where one sql database must be shared by many applications
new data folder is the only folder that needs permissions set before multiple folders needed permissions now everything can be put in this folder... database, logfiles, configuration files, picture upload folders... eventually all cjwsoft applications will do this allowing multiple cjwsoft applications to use that same folder therefore making it easier than ever to setup more applications without asking your host to set more permissions
new text based config file makes it easier to add new options to the program without making changes to the database structure... therefore the need for the configuration table in the database has been eliminated this also reduces system resources needed to load the config data for each page because it eliminates calls to the database for config data
added voice effects for data connection page, intro users page, and settings page
made it so ratings color was an option (red or blue)
fixed minor bug that wasn't showing fixed category heights when that was selected and am image wasn't originally sized that way during initial upload
changed logfiles dates so they always show up in the proper order 09 vs 9
added config option to change bit query value to 1 or -1 default it to 1.... this is a technical thing
added the extra options currently in the config file to the settings page so people do not have to manually edit that file any longer...
added new persits email option and authentication options to the settings page
added new CDOSYS emailing option
added support for dundas emailer
added support for ASPSMARTMAIL
fixed word filter so if it is empty it doesn't mess up also make editing it part of the main settings
made email functions include file and edited all page that email to use it
added css/style sheet support and removed a lot of the old font tags
seperated the settings page into sections because it was too big and confusing
added ability for text watermarking when using the ASPImage component
made the picture upload error message no longer mention browsers that do not support picture uploading as that is confusing people... and the problem is never that anymore
Made the ASPImage test page delete the bar graph before creating it so if it is already there they will not think it is working
added crystal ball feature to admin users screen... shows additional user info when you hold the mouse over it
Made search function highlight search word in results. Made the search function search the image description text files as well
Eliminated the guestbook directory as there was no need for the guestbook to be in it's own directory. This also simplified the menu.asp file as the guestbook section could be removed.
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------
Possible Improvements:
eventually make new and much better directions/documentation... html based for multiple reasons
Eliminate the need for parent paths to be enabled on the web server. (THIS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE) Many hosting companies disabled parent paths and will not enable them for their users. On Windows 2003 Server Parent Paths are disabled by default.
make it so users ability to upload pics can be optionally disabled
possibly make some of the special functions in the extras folder built in to the admin area
Make the category picture uploader smarter because of the jpg gif issue when reuploading cat icons A jpg loaded over a gif.. doesn't delete the old gif graphic and vice versa
Reduce number of ".asp" pages in general.
Use more functions for redundant tasks.
Optimize all instances of the old filefound function which is using more resources than are necessary
option.explicit the entire application and get all the variables dimmed once and for all
possibly incorporate the new category system I am working on which allows for unlimited categories and levels also simplifies the heck out of the pages that call the categories
possibly add some cool image manipulation functions such as rotation for the various image components supported
possibly add the ability to move pictures around in an album. and maybe between albums I must also remember to move the ratings and desc as well for that image.
possibly add the ability to make individual pictures require approval
possibly add the streaming image ability (asp page called from image tag) I came up with as an option for people that can use it. this will better secure images in password protected albums and also possibly make it so images can only be viewed from certain urls.. and maybe make an interface for a list of allowed urls
improve the .net support to also resize the larger images.. currently it does not
possibly add a feature to store 3 versions of images uploaded thumbnail, medium res, and high res/original this will appeal to professionals or people that may want to sell prints storing a large version will be optional
possible support for multimedia content other than gif and jpg images
fix... url to link to.. problem on control pics page when both a jpg and a gif are present... which also relates to a another slight bug that needs to be taken care of
make interface in admin to listen to installed midi files and also to upload / delete them
possibly make per album guestbook... or call it something else like disussion or comments
add option to store the images orginal name in the images description area during upload may be helpful to people that name their images in a somewhat descriptive way
change approval settings so they work on a per user basis eliminate access levels from edit user screen and get rid of the level 4 stuff mentioned possibly add a per user option for individual pic approval as well if I get that feature implemented
add support for the ibulc bulk upload client that I recently discovered it is very cool cwilliams38325.8264583333, gotcha...thanks. , Okay, hopefully I'm posting in the correct area this time.
Currently we are utilizing ASPProtect 7.x
When using the Newsletter function, many members are indicating they are not receiving email. No evidence of email in SPAM folders. Also, when checking with email provider, they insist it is not being filtered prior to delivery to member's email address.
The following message does appear when a newsletter is sent.
error '8004020f'
/newsite/ASPprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 124
Line 124 is the line of code to 'send' the emails. We have approx. 860 members who are on the list to receive the newsletter emails. I have no way of knowing how many are not getting the email. Based on anecdotal evidence, I'm guessing it could be as high as 20%.
We are using CDOSYS / SMTP authentication with a real external email with MX records. Our website is hosted by Cbeyond. They insist it isn't at their end. (for what it's worth)
Thanks for your assistance.
NPA , Because employees and sales reps might leave or go to work at competitors without our knowledge and we can't have them get an perm account so we need to implement some sort of expiry and then review their account with them., Does ASPprotect support Paypal's Website Payments Pro option, where a user can use a credit card directly on a web site, without passing to paypal.com?
Nick , Chris -
Long time no talk, which is a good thing. I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor. I am running into an issues.
When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it. Screen shot attached.
2005-10-19_194248_image_upload.zip
Thanks , ok, here is what is going on
you are password protecting an ".asp" page that requires querystring info to run correctly (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3"")
that is something I never intended anyone to do.. while it does handle and repass the querystring info along during successful login it does not re-pass that info during a failed login as you have found out
this is all by design.. the only reason the system re-passes the querystring info at all is because I wanted to make it smart for the sake of the remember me/cookie feature.. so if someone was using that and bookmarked a page deep in your site with querstring info...then when they went back to that bookmark they would get authenticated and still see the page as intended with the querystring info in tact
it was a nice feature never intended to handle any situations other than what I just described...
now... notice the url in the browser after failing a login.. then logging in successfully.. it is missing the querystring info
that more than anything is what is going on.. browser caching can cause some confusion when dealing with this because the browser likes to return you to the page minus the querstring info... when that happens a simple browser refresh at that time may very well solve the problem and then you see the page you are supposed to see...
To avoid all of this...
One solution to this is to always start people logging in to an ".asp" page that has no querystring info. That way this won't happen. Once they are logged in you can then offer them links to the pages they need to go to. (you of course still want to password protect those pages)
Another solution is to log them into a page with no querystring info and then do a response.redirect to the page with quersytring info.. thus accomplishing the same thing but without the possibility of the issue because of a failed login.
Another solutions is to do checks in your asp page for missing querstring info.. and if it isn't there do something about it like send them somewhere else.. or display a message about there being an error... etc etc
So,basically you don't want to tell people to login into such and such page with querstring info... and providing a username and password..... You can do it but like you found out it can cause an error if they mess up logging in the 1st time. The system just was not designed to handle that. There are complex reasons for that involving security that would just take me too long to explain.
I hope this makes some sense to you.. it is very hard to try and explain , After understanding how the count works i checked the IP in the db. They are all set to the same IP (my web server) no matter what ip is doing the viewing. This is probably due to my ISA2004 firewall that is posting the ip address of the web server with each log on. So, can you help me with where the code would be to modify so the db does not get updated? I risk the refresh problem, don't think it is an issue with me.
Thanks, , Hello,
Sorry, I do not have any good ideas on this one... Domain Name Masking can cause issues with quite a few things.
cwilliams38366.3136342593, I did everything mentioned here but it do not work ;( , Advertising ?? oh really.
It was named that because that way if you already have a login.aspx file for whatever reason it does not interfere which is a good thing. It has nothing to do with advertising.
Next off you never mentioned having an issue with it saying aspprotect in it. I am EXTREMELY clear about what I support and do not regarding ASPProtect.NET. If you are upset because I didn't tell you exactly what to edit and change in visual studio.net and hold your hand you are out of line. My god, I sent you to like the best and most detailed tutorial on how to setup and use the application with VS.NET that could ever exist. That took forever to put together. I even responded to your post on Christmas on a Sunday. I doubt too many companies would have responded on Christmas.
More importantly than that when you purchase code from CJWSoft you are purchasing digital source code and there are no refunds. Every single page in the CJWSoft family states that very cleary in the footer. I do not appretiate it when someone threatens a chargeback and as far as I am concerned anyone that does that is commiting a crime of theft. I also do not appretiate smart comments saying it's "obvious" etc etc
If you wanted to strike a nerve with me you did. If you want to commit a crime and be a thief that is your business as well. Obviously I can not stop that and the credit card company will take your side. I work very hard on the source code I sell and my policies on everything are VERY clear.
Advertising ?? Calling the credit card company ?? Obvious ??
nice, real nice , ok, it works fine here with that password encryption key and password you sent me. I also looked in the database and I got the same encrypted password password which definetly has a weird hidden line break in it. (for example if you copy and paste it only the 1st part shows up like when you pasted it above.. as it is really the same length as the that guys email address)
Maybe you do not have the newest code. (I added some code to check for those weird line breaks and take care of them) I am going to PM you the latest version. Please download it and just take the "check_user_inc.asp" file out and copy it into your existing install.
Then try logging in as that person again.
If that works you should also grab the new version of "password_admin/check_admin_inc.asp" as well, I think its great to share a mod.
I will have few with the new album. , Hello
I have a strange problem with the thumbnails in the ASPClassifieds. If i upload some pictures in an ad, the 2nd picture always shows with an x, as the picture doesn´t exists. But if i click on the 2nd thumbnail, the picture shows okay. I haven´t changed enything from the original code. Does anyone have any idea, where it goes wrong ?
With best regards, Erling Larsen , We have a site that currently runs ASPProtect and would like to install a second instance of it. The reason is that the current one is set up to manually authorize new users (it is for applying discounts to the Trade), but we want a second instance that will allow new users to register freely (this is for personalization).
Has anyone set up such a goofy scenario themselves? Is this even possible?
Thank you! , you have to check the session variables for groups a little differently.. info on that is here
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo198-1.htm
, The setting I am most interested in is what you have for the "Pic_Max_Image_Width" used when the image resizing components resize the big image
setting it to nothing or zero could cause this
, I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , Dear Christofer
I already have send you the details you asked me for. Please let me know if you have received , yes, there is upgrade pricing http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp
and upgrade instructions here in the forums
if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo173-1.htm whether or not you upgrade is up to you
Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.
, Haven't gotten to it yet. I do know there are a few customers using it to edit the app and said it was not all that different. Maybe they will chime in with some tips., This user is talking about preparing more than 100 pics at a time for an album that already exists and doing it using linux.
I asked the user to post the code here because I think it is interesting and it may help someone who is working with the app.
This article is not for everyone for a few reasons.
1.) The application can already mass import pics on it's own. It does 100 pics pretty quickly on a decent server. The built in method also resizes pictures and make low res thumbnails should your server support a supported ASP image resizing component. The method above simply rename pictures in a folder so the application will see them as part of an album.
2.) We don't support or recommend that anyone sets the application to use more than 100 pics per album. It is just not tuned for that and there will be issues. Please dont ask me what they are as it is complicated and I am not sure/dont remember what they all are.
3.) Your going to have to be familiar with linux to use the code shown above. cwilliams38210.5694444444, thanks.. it was not taken as a complaint. I just wanted to explain
When you said you tried using the web version of sql manager. Did you use the microsoft one I link to here "just curious"
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo127-1.htm
, that is because passwords in the import/export files are encrypted.. if you make one of your own you need to use the rc4 function in the "config_inc.asp" to encrpyt your passwords just like the aspprotect system does (requires knowledge of vbscript and integration into your export system)
now, there is a way around this
if you want to import a file you made with clear text passwords edit "import.asp" beforehand and change
If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = UserArray2(5)
to
If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = RC4(UserArray2(5), PasswordEncryptionKey)
that way it should convert your clear text passwords to encrypted while it does the import
this post also addresses this but in the reverse scenario http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=261&PN =1&TPN=1
I hope this helps you because I really do have to leave the office like right now. Very late for a dinner meeting.
I should be back on the computer later tonight or tommoro morning , here is the next response to this which was emailed to me but should have been posted here
From: Mo Afifi Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2005 4:47 PM To: CJWSoft Support Info Subject: Re: CJWSoft Support Info : SSL - Verisign Certifcates
Hello,
Thank you for responding to my posting. In the second line of your response you said “not start them off at an http:// url". I think what you meant is to "not start them off at an https:// url". If this is your intention then I agree with you 100%. I have revised my pages so the users will go first to a non-https page and then make a choice either to use secure or non-secure access. Please note that the site is not intended to be completely SSL protected but only the sign up pages. I have another problem though when I click on the "Secure Log In" and enter my log in information; the entire subsequent URLs will have https:// in them which I could not shake off. As I said the intention was to use the https for sign in only.
I realize that this issue does not have any thing to do with your product, but any input will be appreciated. Best,
, Hello,
My guess your having trouble setting up a system dsn because the database has a password set on it. Your hosting company most likely sets up DSNs without using the advanced tab which is where the authentication information goes. Or they have some sort of web interface for the customers to use that doesn’t allow setting up that information.System DSN’s are actually difficult to set up correctly when the database has a password on it. There is of course a password on the database for security reasons so if someone ever downloads it somehow they will not get your information.
System DSN’s are not the way to go regardless as you will see mentioned at our support site.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9&P N=1
You really should try setting up a DSN-less connection. It is the best way to go. They are easier to set up, perform better, and are less load on the server. Any host that wants it customers to use system dsn’s is not on the ball as far as server performance and server resource conservation goes. They are really asking for trouble down the road.
All you need to do to make dsn-less connection is the following.
Get permissions set for the folder the database is in (by your host)… then figure out the physical path on the server to the database by using server.mappath or you simply ask your host for the info.
An article I wrote on using server.mappath
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
Then your connection string will look something like this.. (of course you edit the path to match what server.mappath tells you. And you make sure the database name is correct)
ListingsConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\asplistings\_database\asplistings_ac cess2000.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
Another option would be to simply remove the password from the database using MSACCESS.. then try to connect to it using a System DSN without the password. If your host is storing the databases outside of your web in the root of the server then removing the password on the database is not that bad of a thing to do as there is no way anyone will be able to dload it from your site. Of course there is a still a performace loss when using a system dsn with an Access Database cwilliams38145.8540509259, This is amazing. You replied to question within minutes. Thanks for showing such a professionalism.
, well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.
"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."
and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.
It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp
If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. , BTW.. I dont know what is going on But I keep getting all these returned emails. My forum is sending you emails and they are coming back as undeliverable saying your storage space is exceeded on your server.

All they do is sell that crap and forget the customer. But the stuff does work well and always has. (that guy took all the money he made/makes from those components and took off to Jamaica or something sitting on the beach drinking margaritas)<BR><BR>regardless,<BR>ASP just cant resize pictures on it's own. <BR>It' just not possible. You need a 3rd Party component.<BR><BR>There isn't much to say about the ASP.NET thing.<BR><BR>If your server has ASP.NET installed (meaning you can run aspx pages on your server and the ASP.NET framework is installed) and running you just pick that option in the config file and ASP Photo Gallery will use ASP.NET to make dynamic thumbnails for you.<BR><BR>To run ASP.NET it must be a 2000 or 2003 server.</P>
, Three questions here:
1. I am having a problem with characters being displayed properly when viewing listings. Some alphabet characters and punctuation characters do not display properly when viewing the pages.
Sample here:
http://www.hibari2.com/lanoitanretni/kokusai_profiles/view_i tem.asp?Ad_ID=102&CatLevel=2&Cat1_ID=3&Cat2_ID=& amp; amp; amp; amp;Cat3_ID=&Cat4_ID=&FromSearch=True&SearchPage =%2Flanoitanretni%2Fkokusai%5Fprofiles%2Fdefault%2Easp%3FCat Level%3D2%26Cat1%5FID%3D3
In the access database I was looking at the properties for the ‘Ad_Custom’ fields. Unicode Compression is 'Yes' but IME Mode is set to 'No Control'. I wonder by changing this to ‘Hiragana’ if will solve the issue.
Note: the essays are typed in English on computer with Japanese OS, and then pasted up. Even though they are typed in English, there are several setting that may affect the output.
2. I want to reverse sort order for listings instead of listing 4, 5, 6, 7, I’d like to sort 7, 6, 5, 4… Could you tell me which page has to be edited, and in simplest terms what has to be changed?
3. Also, I’d like to increase the default display of ‘items per page’ from 25 to 100. Could you tell me which page has to be edited, and in simplest terms what has to be changed?
Thanks
HIBARI38155.8447569444, I assume you mean 500 pixels wide
no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm
so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process
, Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails, .
One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen
Thanks!!!
- Jason , Okay, I deleted out the aspprotect folder and started over. I also took out the dsn connection to the ecommerce database and deleted out the subweb that had it, I decided to use another provided where the database is resident on thier servers not mine.
I broke my txt file into groups and it's loading sort of. The first 1000 users uploaded fine...the second said it timed out, but when I looked at the access database it showed 2000 people. The login still times out and every page seems to load incredibly slow still. , If you need to know how to enable them on your test server.
